CD REQUIRED? What the...

Why on earth does hl2 make you keep your cd inside while playing??? I thought the whole promise of Steam was that you could go to any computer with steam installed and just log in a play, no cds to worry about, nothing, I was about to throw away my discs and it asked for a cd!!! Wow, all that development on steam for this?

That's swell and all, but what happens if you get tired of the game and want to sell or trade for another? Is there anyway to sell your downloaded copy?
