I have a Matsushita 8x burner (model number CW-7503). Lately it has been playing up. It doesnt seem to want to burn cds anymore. This is the error generated by CDRWIN 3.8D:

"Error WRITE command failed on device 1:6:0
Illegal command request (04h 00h 02h 05h 2Ch 00h)"

The firmware has been updated to the latest (1.09) and I have re-installed my system a couple of times and also re-seated the SCSI card. I have also tried the burner with Easy CD Creator 4.02C.

Any ideas??

Two things I can suggest here: Clean the laser with a commercial disc designed for cleaning or a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol. If that does not work, and the drive is not under warranty, remove the cover from the drive and blow any dust out of it and clean and lubricate the rails that the optical sensor ride on. If it can't read it won't write. Sounds familiar doesn't it??? This is assuming all software and configuration issues have already been played out as well as maybe surge issues??? Good luck...

Tried Nero?

I agree it's probably either a dirty lens or dirty/dry guide rails.

I had a similar problem recently with an HP 9300. What I did was to make it Slave and my cdrom master. This seems to have cleared up that issue. Why it crapped out in the first place is beyond me. Also try what the other guys say, clean the lens.
