Looks like this week has some good CD-R media packs.

TDK has a Rebate For all 74-minute media packs -- good until March 31, 2001. Looks like it is a "Limit 3" rebate? TDK is supposed to be very high quality dics.

TDK 50 pack at BestBuy.com for $26.99 - $10 rebate = $17 -- does BB charge shipping on CD-R orders?
TDK 100 pack - Costco stores is supposed to be selling these for $44 - $20 rebate = $24 for 100 dics! Anyone confirm this?

Tech*bargains mentions that this week Sunday advertisements have:

Office Depot - 50 pack (? brand) for $12.99 after rebate
OfficeMax Fuji 50 pack for $9.99 after rebate

Now, where can we find better deals. Something with this TDK rebate deal seems to be something we could find on the Net?

So I notice that buy.com has the TDK's featured On this web page upper right -- but it says "$23.63" then "$10 rebate" and also "Price after rebate is $9.99" -- my math weak or something?

if you are a costco memeber, you should've received a "wallet" full of coupons (it's promotion time) and in it, there's a coupon that has the TDK 100pk item 346649 that can be used on february 19th to the 25th so that the 100 pk is for $14.99. If you're willing to wait, that is.

Unless, you want to risk combining rebates because the costco coupon lists that the price si $44.99 - off at register $12 - mail in rebate (at end of receipt) of $18 = $14.99

I don't know how to add in the $20(?) rebate, though...if I could, then someone please make this better ^_^

vivyip is right on the costco deal.

btw, you want to make sure that the TDKs are made in japan. Taiyo Yuden cdrs are made in japan. i actually needed cdrs badly so i got the ones at costco. the were identified by CDR Identifier to be Taiyo Yuden. don't settle for the taiwan crap (usually ritek or other cheap company). (Fry's has the TDK's but they are made in the USA. BB had them too but they were made in Taiwan.)

i got some of the same fuji's at the curcuit city deal two months ago and they are also Taiyo Yuden.

Unfortunatley, CDR Identifier doesn't tell you much. All CD-Rs are made from a glass master which may or may not be from the same plant in which the CDRs are made. So, Ritek or CMC could get a glass master from TY and the ATIP will still read the manufacturer as Taiyo Yuden even though the dye is made by CMC/Ritek.

Case in point: I have a pack of Imations (made in Japan) that ID as TY but every single one has corrupted data since the dye sucks. I've tried them in 3 burners so far and they all fail, so that's definitely not TY dye.

Good point Wango

This has been discussed on alt.comp.periphs.cdr on UseNet before just in case someone wants to read more about the less than 100% accuracy of CD Identifier.

I have burned around 500 CDs of EVERY make and dye and none of them ever gave me data errors or corrupted my data. I get bad burns because of my carelessness, not because of the media. If you get a spindle of cdr's that ever gives you corrupted data Wango, then I would advise you to call that company's customer service, more likely than not your bad cdr's are caused by bad handling and shipping RATHER than poor quality/inspection...

case in point: "although American cars are no where in the league of Japanese/European cars in terms of quality, at least they get you from point A to point B", well most of the times...

I wouldn't worry about the FujiFilms not being TYs. I'm just saying that you should always take the results of CD Identifier with a healthy dose of caution.

The thing is: most people that i've talked to that have used the Fuji 80mins have had great success so it hasn't wrecked the TY reputation.

I bought the 100 pack of TDKs from Costco yesterday and CDR Identifier says they are the Taiyo Yudens. I haven't tried to burn one yet but we'll see how they do. I wish I'd know about the Feb deal, tho.
