Your just assuming all of that actually, ever think you might be wrong? It's also quite possible the only reason they didn't follow through is because loud people on the internet got butt hurt for no reason and they didn't want the press.
What am I assuming? There are several articles that described the letters they sent out for gamers, and they went into detail about the company's claim of 100% pirate detection. This was confirmed by the company themselves. One article in PC gamer specifically references another quote they had from their CEO where he said that they shouldn't even bother with DRM anymore because it doesn't work... this was a quote that happened before they sent out the letters. Then the next news was that they were stopping the letters and any legal action they threatened, which was also widely talked about. Now they're saying they'll stay away from DRM entirely from now on.
All of those things were news sources, not my assumptions. The only thing I assumed was that they would have continued their legal battle if people didn't raise such a fuss over it, which may not have happened. They may have stopped all on their own... but we'll never know. But that wasn't my point. The point is that they have a history of odd DRM related actions that they go back on later, so again I will not wait until they prove that they're serious this time.
