Your just assuming all of that actually, ever think you might be wrong? It's also quite possible the only reason they didn't follow through is because loud people on the internet got butt hurt for no reason and they didn't want the press.

What am I assuming? There are several articles that described the letters they sent out for gamers, and they went into detail about the company's claim of 100% pirate detection. This was confirmed by the company themselves. One article in PC gamer specifically references another quote they had from their CEO where he said that they shouldn't even bother with DRM anymore because it doesn't work... this was a quote that happened before they sent out the letters. Then the next news was that they were stopping the letters and any legal action they threatened, which was also widely talked about. Now they're saying they'll stay away from DRM entirely from now on.

All of those things were news sources, not my assumptions. The only thing I assumed was that they would have continued their legal battle if people didn't raise such a fuss over it, which may not have happened. They may have stopped all on their own... but we'll never know. But that wasn't my point. The point is that they have a history of odd DRM related actions that they go back on later, so again I will not wait until they prove that they're serious this time.

Except they DIDN'T do anything. They folded under pressure... all talk. I like the company and their product, but they've double backed on DRM decisions before. In one article the CEO talks about how "DRM doesn't work, so we shouldn't even bother anymore" right before they sent out collection letters claiming 100% piracy detection. If they were right about the 100% detection then they would have followed through with the collection, but they realized they weren't as certain as they thought. Now he's swearing off DRM entirely. It's a bunch of shenanigans when it comes to this CEO and DRM, so I'm on the "wait and see" plan. Everything else they do with DLC and such is gold though.

Meh, if you'd gotten a letter claiming you pirated TW2, it should be easy enough to remember where you bought the game. If you bought from GoG, Amazon, Steam, D2D, etc, there's records. If you bought at a retail store, there's receipts and records. The only way it might be a problematic, if you bought a used copy on eBay. But, there's records for that too, though one might wonder why you bought a used copy when brand new copies are dirt cheap and deliver far faster through GoG or Steam.

This thread reminded me to buy TW2 for both enjoyment and to support the devs, thanks!

I wish they went through with the plan to sue pirates. Right now there is no consequence for open piracy.

Your assuming they didn't collect because of their detection methods. You also claimed the CEO went back on his word about DRM when he sent collection letters, but I don't see how sending letters is DRM.

I was bored so I went digging tonight. Just in case anybody is curious:

By far the most popular torrents are video taped films still running in theaters.
Second most popular are currently running TV shows (biggest hits are for episodes that just ran that night or the night before).
3rd most popular is movies which are just about to be released on home video.
4th is TV shows just released on disc in complete sets.
5th is current, hit music.
6th is popular utility apps like Photoshop and Office.

Yada, yada, yada......

PC games are like number 20 on the list, after each and every console including the NES and SNES.
Yup, the 80's and 90's console ROM's still get pirated more often and more thoroughly than new Windows titles. Interestingly iOS and portable games are the most sought after, not blockbuster PS3 and 360 games.

Actually adult magazines in ebook or PDF format get more hits than Windows games. Ditto anime and comic books.

 These guys get it. Please continue to give me reasons to give you my money.

Exactly. Didn't pay full price for W2 (since I wasn't aware of it until last fall) but when/if W3 comes up for pre-order/collectors edition, I am there. These guys support their games post release like none other. Their games are also very enjoyable :D

Do it!

Good for them, but they'll have to make a decent game before it makes a difference :p

Let's make dying in a boss fight a chore because slogging through 10 mins of trash killing is fun!

I know they fixed that with a patch but I can't believe anyone is retarded enough to let that pass release QA.

Same here, had my eye on this series for a while, just never pulled the trigger. Reviews seem a little mixed, but mostly good. Plus bewbies.
