Hello, I've noticed that in the winter my stock CD player will work fine in my 2000 Audi A6; however, in the summer the engine or the whole car gets too hot and the cd player will not work, any suggestions?

Take it to the dealer to get it fixed? Or replace the headunit? It's obviously defective...

Since I've had it yes (I bought it last year used). And yes the radio works, only the CD player doesn't. I bet the dealer will charge a fortune for a new headunit...I'm not sure it's worth it just for a cd player, I might just get a cd changer instead.

Probably your best option.

If there was a factory optional changer that you don't have that might be a good option but it's likely to cost more than installing a new HU + compatible changer.

If my Pioneer 7600 can survive the hot Texas summers and never so much as skip, it can survive anywhere. :p

I would install an aftermarket except IMO it really takes away from the style. First off, this is not a normal sized stereo, its probably 2 or 3x larger than the regular sized radios, so I would have to buy an adaptor which would make it look worse. Not to mention everything has red LED's, and I have yet to see a fully red led cd player. I checked ebay and it seems some people have been selling radios that would fit my car. My problem is, maybe my car is overheating and maybe it isn't a cd player problem...

Ok, come on, don't be an idiot. Do you honestly think your engine is overheating and preventing the cd player from working?

Your cd player could very well stop working because of heat, but it is the heat built up inside your dashboard. You have a few options, replacing the CD player with another stock unit being the most reasonable, or you can try to hook up a fan inside the dash, blowing at the cd player, *or* you could try to cut a small hole into your A/C vent in the dash, so that a little air blows out at the CD player whenever the A/C is on.

But for the love of god, it's not the engine doing it, unless the engine is on fire.
