I'm having trouble with my computer locking up when I sometimes try to use my CD player. When I try to play a music CD on my computer it will lock up the computer
and I will have to hit the reset button. I don't get any error messages or
any blue screens of death. I have also noticed when I go into My computer
.C:>Windows>CD player. This is with no CD in it, the program icon will come
up that says Artist, Title, etc.and then the computer will lock up.In the
place for the artist it says This drive is being scanned <D:> and then
the place for the Title it says waiting for the drive to become available. I
have had no trouble using CD's to install my programs and any of my games.
I'm also having trouble playing 3 of my games that need to read the CD to
play them (half life, Dirt Track Racing and Sprint Car Racing(. It will start booting up goes to the 3dfx screen then a black
screen and locks up this is without having a CD in it. I tried a full
reformat, updated video& sound drivers, have the Microsoft updates and
pounded my head against the wall. None of these have worked. Thanks for any
help you can give me.

Would disabling DMA mode for the CD-ROM help?

BTW Some info on your system specs would help too.
