I know this is a kinda stupid question but i honestly dont know what to do. I need to paste some labels ive printed on some home dvds ive made. These lables are nothing special. They are just printed on normal printer paper and cut out to the shape of cd's/dvd's. So how do you guys paste your lables? Tape? Glue? special adhesives? or what? Can i just use a normal glue stick? Im worried about the glue comming off or melting and then destroying my drives and/or player.

Thanks inadvance for the help

You can get sticky CD labels. Glue might work, but you have to make sure it's really uniform.

Order online if you need to. Glue is a bad idea. Even professionally pressed CDs can explode in drives as low as 40x - I know this to be true. One of my Giants: Citizen Kabuto CD's exploded in a 16x/40x Pioneer DVD-ROM drive.
Glue will make the CD unevenly balanced, and could make the top of it bumpy, either of which may serve to destabilize it as it's spining at very high speeds in the drive. An exploding CD will scare the hell out of you, might send pieces flying out of the drive, and can destroy the drive. Not something to mess around with.

yup order good labels, or just don't bother. its probably a bad idea since itse all about perfect balance, and its doubtful you'll be able to with glue and thick paper. you should either use the discs where you burn the label on with the dvd drives laser, light scribe or something, both your drive and the discs have to be compatible. and the newer version 1.1? is better. or use inkjet dvd media and print that way.

A short term solution might be to use cd markers for labeling. It is important to use markers made especially for cd/dvd labeling though as regular markers can eventually destroy your cd/dvd's

see if u can find a cheap kit in a box. you just need the press thingie so the label is perfectly centered. and the circle adhesive labels.

Sharpie's have always worked for me. It does depend on the marker though. Some of those permanent markers have some pretty nasty solvents in them.

I always use sharpies, and a really old disc I burned several years ago on an old 2x burner - that managed to NOT burn a coaster that time :p - still works.

Memorex labels are excellent. Never use glue - it penetrates the disk if it has been exposed to high heat and humidity. Sharpies are OK - but they look exceedingly amateurish. The best are labels printed directly on the disk.

I've got 2 lightscribe burners in rigs (and media), an Epson R320 that prints on optical media (and the media), and I still use a Sharpie for 95% of my cds and dvds. It's just too easy. And I too have used Sharpies since the days of my Memorex 2X burner.

Don't use labels on optical media, unless you're willing to increase your risk of losing data. A homebrew glue application won't be uniform, and store-bought adhesive labels have been known to warp discs to an extent that read errors start occurring, becoming progressively worse over time.

I also use permanent markers. I use the Bic ones as they say they are optical media safe. Not pretty, but effective. I use the green marker as it absorbs stray laser light.
