i dont even know if it was a dvd or cd, but it was in a SLEEVE made of paper and plastic. the box was blk and white and greyish. there was not plastic casing... so getting a copy of this cd/dvd would allow me to install? anyone here would like to sell their original to me?

The FEAR box was not black and white and greyish.. Nor was there a paper sleeve for the disc.

You either bought a bootleg, or you're making this up as you go.
The initial release was not like that, but they've just recently started selling a different version without the fold-out front cover and different art. Probably for budget reasons or something. Don't believe me? Check Wally World.

Correct..I bought this version 2 weeks ago in fact.

No it seems legit. I have 5 FEAR discs (1 Game) and each are in a seperate paper/plastic CD sleeve. The guy knows what he is talking about (Not saying i believe him).

I would write to Sierra/Monolith and ask them if they can send you a replacement disc. My DVD-ROM drive ate CoD and i had to open it up and rip out all the disc shards afterwards. I just contacted Activision and they sent me a new one (albeit for a very expensive ~$10). You should really contact customer service, and not ask us how to find a bootlegged copy.

You'll probably be able to install your friend's version, but you won't be able to play it without his original CD. When the game's installed it records some sort of markings that are individual to the actual CD is was installed from.

Now, if only there were a way to clone a CD to a hard drive and run it from a virtual drive... ;)

Google is your friend.

That being said, there's got to be some way Sierra will send you a replacement. You'll probably have to provide a receipt and the S/N off the sleeve.

:Q really? i didnt know that, now i have to find a 2nd copy to find out.. also the whole clone thing dosent work I tried it and it says dvd is not in drive.(used a tool that's called D----N and A------120). Sorta annoying with the whole dying from a power surge dvd drive that works only intermittently.

There are ways around the cloning issue. As I said, Google is your friend.
