cd/dvd order

My brain is not functioning or xp is doing something I do not underestand.
I have two dvd writers (gsa 4167b and ga 4165b) and I am trying to order the drives so that the 4165 is drive D and the 4167 is drive E.

The drive 4165 is set as master and the 4167 as slave.

No matter how I plug in the connectors either with the 4165 to the middle connector or with the end connector the drives always come out with the 4165 as dribe D.

Am I just being dim and missing something or is windows stopping me from changing the order and allocation of the drives.

Many thanks.

Masters dominate and slaves obey regardless of cable positions.

Disk Manager might let you put the Master in his proper place (you can force drive letters). Or remove the slave's jumper and put it on the master for naughty fun.

First, make sure you have the drives jumpered correctly and cabled correctly.

Drive at the end of cable should be jumpered as Master. Drive in center of cable jumpered as slave.

Right click My Computer/Manage/Disk Management

From there, right click on the drive you want to change (the box that has it's name in it) and select Change drive letter. 🙂
