CD/DVD checks

I recently archived images to several DVD's and got successful completion messages so I "assumed" that it went well.... When I later went to add them to Portfolio 7 I got read errors of several of the files.

My question is what do you guys do to validate your archived CD / DVD's. Is there software that will do a file scan like you can do on a hard drive.

BTW, I'm using a PC running XP Pro. I was using Roxio Easy CD 6, Now using Nero 6. What I'm doing now is a read verify at the burn time, then I do a copy / paste from the CD/DVD back to the hard drive and verify the images in the browser. It works, slowly

NERO can verify the data between the HD and the CD. It can also read a CD/DVD and look for errors. It's one of the Tools in the Nero suite.
