CD/DVD burning slows down machine

I have a AMD athlon 64 3200+ with 1gig ram PC.

I noticed that when I burn a CD or DVD, my machine becomes very laggy and slow response. However, I have a slower machine and I don't see the same problem.

Can anyone give me some suggestions improving this? I just want to burn CD's and browse the web at the same time. And I believe my PC should be fast enough to do so.

Is it because I install the DVD burner into IDE 2 slot? Should I have my HD and DVD rom sharing the same IDE slot?

Fortunately whats diff about u is that u do have onboard IDE.

find out if u are in DMA or PIO mode and then

How fast is ur dvd burning btw?

I have my burner and HDD on different slots and have always configured systems this way with no problem. Are your chipset drivers up to date?

What software are you using to burn?

thanks JackRipper, your site helps definitely

after resetting the registry and have UDMA turned on. My DVD buring returned to normal. I don't feel any lagging during burning at all!!
