CD Drive ejects everything HELP!

After formatting my HD and reinstalling win XP, my creative 52mx has ejected everything I have tried to place in it. I put a cd in, it reads for a bit as if trying to initiate some kind of autorun, and then it ejects the disk tray. There is no error message, and every cd I have tried has done the same thing. The computer recognizes the drive for what it is, but obviously something is wrong. Does someone know how to fix this problem?

Please help kind strangers!

Yes, my Creative 52x had the same problem with a lot of WinXP disks. You need a new drive, that one just won't cut it.

i forgot what the specs are, the machine is pretty old, pentium III. the system has one other drive, a creative cd writer. while we're on the topic i was just wondering, should the writer be the secondary master or slave?

i'm thinking the specs don't really matter because the machine was working fine in winXP before reformatting.

I hope i dont' have to throw it out, drives aren't expensive nowadays but I don't feel like going out and buying another one. yes... i am just plain lazy hehe

meanwhile, does anyone have a fix to this problem?
