cd drive can cause lag?

When i play games, and when the game seeks information from the cd rom, the game lags for around 3-5 seconds. During the lag, i can hear the cd rom drive "getting wound up". i have dma enabled but don't know what to do, the cdrom is pretty fast. I tried a different cdrom drive and the same thing happens. I have a feeling its some setting that is screwed up.
 
If the App or Game needs to hit the CD, then yes.

A lot of new games have a "Full Install" choice that will keep you from needing to go to the CD during the game.

Yep, everyone has this problem, including myself. Much more noticeable when i have a CDRW disc in one of the drives, and I go to Explorer. Explorer opens, but then takes about 5-7 seonds to display all the drives and their contents. With a faster machine, the lag is slightly less, but not faster enough to really make a difference.
