OK, here's the situation:
Two systems:
Dual 1800+
512 MB
Seagate Barracuda IV ATA100
Plextor 24x10x40
AND
Pentium 3 733
384 MB
Quantum Fireball 7200 RPM ATA100
LiteOn 32x12x40
Two different 32X media types: KingPro & TDK. Also tried some 24X TDK.
All burning done with latest version of Nero (5.5.8).
We're testing by burning one 400 mb file & one 200 mb file to a CDR. Disc at once, finalize CD. The burn process completes successfully at 24X or 32X (depending on which burner we use, the plextor @ 24, the lite-on @ 32).
However...
When the files are copied back off the disc, Windows has a horrible time pulling them off. Estimated time is around 90 minutes to pull 600 MB off. When the CD's are burned at 16X the data will copy in a much more reasonable 4 minutes. An audio CD burned at 32X is currently playing perfectly on a PlayStation2, & it also worked correctly in my DVD player. But data CD's don't seem to work correctly, even though no errors are reported.
WTF are we doing wrong? Is the media at fault? Surely 32X media should burn at 24X? Especially in a good quality burner (my Plextor). The 24X TDK results are the same, though CDRIdentifier ID's the 24 & 32X TDK the same.
The disc reads the same in both my Plextor CDRW and my LiteOn DVD drive, so the drive is not at fault.
Anybody have any suggestions?
