CD Burning under Windows XP and Windows 2000

First, hello....

Here is my sys:
Athlon 1400C
MSI KT333 Ultra
512 Samsung PC333
DVD Pioneer(alone onboard IDE1)
Teac 16x write(alone onboard IDE2)
IBM 46GB(alone HP720 RAID card IDE1)
WD 60GB(alone HP720 RAID card IDE2)
M-Audio Audiophile 2496
GF2

Autoplay is disable on all drives.
XP native burning support is disabled.

very very very stable system.
not a single problem... well... beside this 😉

Here's the problem experienced:
No matter what OS(XP or 2k), no matter what hardware( I changed only recently the MB) while I burn a CD with Cdrwin or Nero if I open
my computer, explorer, ie, any app that uses a open/save dialog that app locks(stops responding) until the burning is finished.


Well, to be honnest it is an annoying thing and I had enough of it. I am looking for a solution for a long time now, but I found nothing.
So, I decided to try my luck here 😉

Please help if you can, and you might want to try ignoring my spelling, if not for other reason, just because my english is not my native tongue.

Well, you don't mention trying another burner. You might want to do that.

hmmm... you are right.
I had before a Richoh 8x and a Teac 12x
The same thing. Under win2k, XP was not out at that time.

I have this same problem. I think its due to the fact that during burning the drive is locked by the burning program. Open/Save dialogs try to spin up the CD everytime they are opened to read the CD's volume label, since the drive is locked they can't, so it freezes and keeps trying until its successful.

I also had this problem with just normal cd reading, not burning.. you might want to check that all your hard drives and cd rom drives are set to DMA mode, not PIO.
