So my uncle isn't too computer savy and on his old laptop he had Roxio DirectCD. He uses his burner to save documents and other work-related files so that he can take them to and from work. DirectCD was almost perfect for him because he could save files directly to the CD from within various applications like Microsoft Word the same way he would save to a floppy or the HD.
His new laptop came with no CD burning software and that caused two problems. First of all, he tried to read the CDs he burned using DirectCD and of course it wouldn't work since he has no UDF reader installed. Also, when he tried to save files from Microsoft Word, for example, on to his CD, he got that little XP balloon saying files waiting to be written to CD. He gets a little confused by the fact that even though he does a save from MS Word, the file isn't actually burned to his CD.
I'm looking for something that allows DirectCD like functionality so that Word docs for example can be burned directly by going to File->Save... Also, it would be great if this CD could be read on other systems without having to install extra drivers like UDF drivers. Is there such a thing? If not should I just go with buying Roxio again? I hear Nero is great but not sure if they have such a feature.
Thanks!!
