I just got a plextor 12x, been poking around testing the ability. I know this drive can overburn, but somehow I can not get it to. I am using 700mb media, and I can't burn 3 files totalling 710mbs. Is it possible? How do it do it? Thanks

I thought overburning was done through software, not hardware. What program are you using to do the burn? Course, I could be wrong too....

Personally if you just bought the drive I would return it and get the Yamaha 16X. Its the same price it can burn anything and everything and its faster.

The Plextor can do Overburn but you may need to upgrade the firmware. What program are you using to do the burn you may need to upgrade that as well? One bit of warning only upgrade the firmware as a last resort as the latest firmware either the one released currently or the next one being released is disabling sub channel reading and writing meaning that the Plextor drives are no longer going to be able to copy some copy protected CD's. The newest TDK drives are coming with this firmware already in place.

I am using the default ezcd creater that came with the drive. Is it only Nero that allow overburn? I also tried using CDRwin, it could burn a bin that's 810mb, but not 3 files totalling 710mb. The Drive recongizes that the media is 701mb, so its not the media. As for not able to burn some copy right CD, does that stil apply even using clone cd? thanks.
