CD-BURNING MADNESS!!!!!!

Ok I have this terrible problem with my cd-burner setup. I can burn CDs easily off of my HDD, but whenever I copy stuff from my DVD drive to my CD Burner, it always fails! This has costed me a whole spindle of CDs! Can somebody plz help me!

Are they on the same cable? If so then this may very well be your problem. I run my DVD player on the ATA66/100 cable that is on my hard drive. While not ideal for DVD, I don't watch movies, I really just wanted to have a quieter, better running CD-Rom drive and thought maybe a DVD might be a longer lasting solution for me. I seem to go through CD-Rom drives, they are the only component that seems to truly hate me, they always fail right after their warranties are up, and some have annoyed me so bad (Creative 52X) that I wanted them to fail early so I could replace it........🙁

..............edit..............
Forgot to ask if DMA was enabled on those two drives. Also have you installed any newer chipset drivers for your motherboard?

You need to work the configs around. Post or PM me with as much detail as possible about your IDE and IDE connection.

Ok i have three cables attached.
One goes to the floppy 1.44, the other large one feeds my HDD and my CD Burner.
I think the last one goes to my DVD.
Everything is set properly in the Bios. Don't have a clue what's happening.

what program are you running? if you are trying to make an exact copy of a cd then there might be a problem...the source cd might be copy protected...if its just data from the dvd drive then you could always copy the data to the HD first and then burn from there.

put cd-r as master on ide 2 -some modles like to be in charge and slave dvd drive to it and give it a try,
the burn program that came with my sony has an option when burning disk to disk to make temp image on hard drive and burn from there

Sounds to me like your just wearing yours out. from what I know burning peaks out the player during the whole process unlike just playing a cd. If your drive is 32x or slower and you have 12x plus, your wearing out the drive. I just plucked in the Sony 52x. Runs at 40x till I hit the magic button! My burner is only 12x so I should be fine for a few yrs.
