Whenever I attempt burning CDs with ANY burning program, I get a Sense 03 error. I'm not sure what this means, but it stops me from burning. The readmes for all of the software (Nero, Roxio, etc.) said to update the firmware on my drive. I searched EVERYWHERE for a firmware update to no avail. I have a Philips (sucks, I bought a Dell unknowingly :() DVD 8801. Anyone know of any other way to fix this?

Did you look on CDFreaks.com for updated firmware? Also if you played any Sony or related companies' music CDs you may have gotten their nasty rootkit on your system. Go to majorgeeks.com - download and run one of their Sony rootkit cleaners to test for and get rid of it. You can go to Sony's site for a list of titles.

Neither worked. :( The rootkit wasn't detected on my system, and there was no firmware update for my drive on CDFreaks... oh well. Thanks for helping.

If you've tried different media to ensure it's hardware related, chances are your drive is going. Have you checked EventLog for errors? Also, make sure your IDE is registering in UDMA and hasn't reverted to PIO.
