CD burner ripping really slowly?

Any particular reason why my burner is reading at such a dismal rate? Or is 52x nearly impossible to obtain, like actually getting 56K with a modem? It is a Lite-On CD-RW with Smart Burn/Smart X. A couple of years old, but this is my only problem with it.

When you said Lite on, I remembered something from a few years ago...
People were complaining about the noise that 52x cd/burner produces, so they limit it to a certain speed.
I think of you press and hold the eject button for a few seconds as your computer boots up it will go to max speed.

Try it anyway, if it doesn't work may be it's the software that reads?
