CD burner problem??

Hi all i've been having problems recently with my birend CD's being played in my new car stereo. The car is a volvo 2001 V70, i believe it has an alpine stereo system.

Well it seems like Certain burned CD's i have can't play in the car Cd player. MOst notable CD's i've made after March. They play find in my comptuer/home Stereo/Disc Man. They just have random skips when playing in the Car CD player, which makes it really annoying to listen to.

The CD's i have are legal, they are live shows from bands that allow taping. Shows I have burend prior to March work flawlessly, it's just stuff i've been burning recently. These shows usually come in SHN format along with MP3. both when extracted to wav for burning randomly skip in my car CD player. Works fine in my home stereo, Disc man and Computer. When I brought it to the dealer and tested some Cd's in other cars with the same CD player it did the same thing.

I have a Smart and Friendly 6X burner. Anybody know what could be the problem? I've noticed that the burned portition of the CD-R is alot darker than what it was when i first got my burner. I've probalby made 300 CD's with this almost 2 year old burner.

Anybody have any clues as to that is wrong?

What kind of media are you using? Some media are just more reflective than others...

Are you finalizing the CDRS?
DId you change media type or did the brand you use change manufacturers or dye type?

Some are definitely better than others. I also have burners that flat don't like certain brands of CDRs...
I have one that just doesn't like SOny media...for instance.

I suggest you fool around a little with different media.

Nope i haven't changed anything since then. Still using the same spindle of Verbatims i used prior to that CD's i made in March. The CD's i'm making work great in my home stero and Disc Man, it's just the CD player in the car that is being screwy.


No media has been change and yes i am finalizing my CD's. I actully got the new EZ-CD 5.0 recently but that didn't change anything. I was burning with 3.5C for all my other CD's.


I dunno what's up... It's jsut the Car stero that's being screwy and it's only on CD's I burned after March. Tho nothing has changed since then. Same Verbatium CD-Rs that i have always used and all.

The only thing i have nocited is that the Burend part of the CD is darker now than b4. Like it's not taking as much of the dye out or something. Can that make a difference in reading them? tho then i wouldn't work in any CD player not just the car. OH well

sometimes i think it's software. try nero...all my cds are fine now after switching from Easy CD creator 4. but i think 5 fixed everything...i think.

i thoguht it could be the software, but all my cd's proir to march was made with EZ-CD 3.5C CD's made after march was made with 3.5C. New CD i made today with EZ-CD 5.0 Platinum, same thing doesn't work with car CD player.

So why would CD's Made in March change something. The only thing i can think of is the laser is too old and not bunring properly. I know the Exact CD that doesn't work, with all CD's bfore working and well nothing changed with that CD, the setup was all the same.

I'm thinking laser, but do i really want to spend 200 bucks on new burner to find out that wasn't even it? I want to see what others can think of as a possible problem first.

Well here is an update that maybe some of you guys can use to help me with my CD problem.

I burned anohter copy of a CD with EZ 5.0 the was working in the car before. This newly burned version worked for like the first 10 seconds, which was really distorted, then it died. Tho now I tried to play this same CD in my home stereo system it also doens't work. I'm burning disc at once, so it did finalize the CD. The CD works great on my computer tho.

I'm now leaning towards a bad CD burner. Anybody else think so? When looking at the bottom of the CD, the color of the burned portion looks almost the same color as the unburned part of the CD.

Anybody have some advice?

Id get a new burner. I just bought the TDK veloCD 12x10x32 for $80 from CompUSA. It works beautifuly.

Yea that's what i'm thinking too. Tho i thoguht burners were suppose to last for a while. I've probably only burned maybe 400 CD's at most on this burner. That's not really alot for it to go down the tubes already. I guess a Smart and Friendly is as quality as i thought at the time.
