CD Burner LED Constantly Flashing

Hi,

I just started having this problem today with my Plextor 40/12/40A drive. It has been working fine up until now. Today, I tried burning something and it won't detect any discs in the drive (blank, or otherwise). The LED is constantly flashing green, even if the tray is open! This also causes my entire PC to slow down to a crawl. The only way to fix it was to completely disconnect the drive. I cannot read any cd's in the drive, although Windows (and all other burning programs) do detect the drive fine. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you recently installed any new software or hardware? It could be a software problem or the drive could be failing. Do you have all the patches to your OS? Is the drive set to master or slave and on what ide channel? Might want to give system specs too.

Also have you changed any settings in your bios?

Hi,

I haven't changed any of the hardware or software recently. The drive was working fine on Saturday, then wasn't on Sunday for no obvious reason. The drive is a master on it's own IDE controller (second channel I believe). I've got an Athlon 1800+, Windows XP, Asus A7V266E mobo... I suspect the drive may be toast. I've been in contact with Plextor as well, so we'll see what they have to say..

Thanks for the reply.
