CD Audio extraction speed?

Just wondering what a normal speed is to extract audio tracks from a CD to wav format. Right now my drive is going at about 8X... seems a little slow to me.

Wonder if it would be faster to copy the .cda tracks to the hard drive, then convert to MP3 format (which is what I want them in)

.cda is just a placeholder for windows, its not the actual sound file

speeds depends on method you use to extract and software.

Waay back on 98se, i used a vxd.dll patch and it showed all the wavs. Just copy and cut from the cd.

It depends on what type of drive you have. If you have a cheapy one then most likely the extraction speed will not be very good. Some drives are just really good at ripping cd's. The drive I am using is an old Plextor 12x10x32 scsi drive(from 2000) and it rips cd's pretty well. cd extraction is usually in 16x-32x range(from the start of the disc to the end of the disc). So it just depends on the drive really.

Liteon cdrom and dvdrom drives are particularly good at cd audio extraction. I think i could classify them as cheapie drives.

do you know what software and what method they used to DAE? Cause those are fast speeds and i cant get any of those EAC speeds in secure mode. Within EAC Secure, my plextor 4012A ripped faster than the Liteon 401252 drive i borrowed.

they used an application called cdspeed. which is now called nero cd speed and is bundled with Nero burning rom.

What I meant by cheapie cd drives are those like no label ones you see on pricewatch, or like generic clearance ones at computer stores. I already knew Liteon drives were good at CDAE too.😛

Using EAC you will always get a slower speed, as it reads it at least twice. Using my NEC DVD-ROM drive, i get about 10x in EAC, but using other programs, such as Easy CD-DA Extracter, it will go from about 25-40x, but then there is the tradeoff in that it's nowhere as accurate and good as EAC 🙂
