If you have the time and money you may as well go for it. The MCSE in Win2K is not the joke to get that < NT4.0 was...

You better know your stuff, those exams are expensive. :)

Well, my roommate is a MCSE and a Microsoft Certified Trainer, and he mentioned that to get the new 2K MCSE, you had better have experience working with the product, or you will have a difficult time with the exams.

That being said, the 2K MCSE is probably a bit harder, but you also have a good background in networking which would help alot.

Good luck! :D

I found even the nt4 mcse harder than the ccna. It is only 1 exam, while now with the 2k track you have 7 exams for the mcse. A more accurate comparison would be the mcse vs the ccnp.

Hmm at our school CCNA took 1 year and MCSE takes 2(really suppose to take 3, but we are cramming).

<< Phokus,

CCNA Compare to MCSE is so much easier, i would say.
CCNA is just theory based, if you study the CCNA book, you can pass the test...
but for MCSE, you have to work with product to get the feel, study the book, and there are 7 different tests to take, there is 4 core exam and 3 elective.........that is so much harder than CCNA

If done right the whole ccna is not supposed to be theory. You are supposed to work with routers and do commands and actually know what you are talking about after the test. Unfortunately that isn't the case with many people, which is a good part of the reason for the decline in the respect for certifications.

Yes I know it is harder, and also that you can just memorize the commands for the ccna. I just get annoyed when I see people do that cause I've a known few people that couldn't troubleshoot themselves out of a paper bag, I mean an open pc scares them silly and they are certified in a few things, just by braindumping and memorizing a few other key points.

I agree. Anyone who claims mcse is a joke hasn't had to take the 7 exams. Most of them that say that are just jealous ;)

i still think MCSE is a joke... i took all 7 exams... they're so easy...
i mean, the hardest one in my opinion is 70-216 (network infra. right?), i sweat for about 10 minutes .... while with CCNA i sweat all the way thru the test and barely passed.

with that said... i think you have to do more work with MCSE just because there are seven tests.

just talking about the questions thou, CCNA is harder.
