I use k-lite, mainly because it has EVERYTHING. CCCP still lacks a few codecs that k-lite has(and has I've encountered said codecs). On top of that I just use real player and quicktime alternative.
I use k-lite. Both are based around ffdshow, but k-lite has proven more compatible with a few odd formats/codecs, and much more friendly with windows media encoder (which I use often enough).
Surprisingly nobody has said this, but I will be the first. Or at least recommend that you stick with only one codec pack. Once it's installed, it can be a pain to remove (yes, even if uninstallers are provided). I haven't had much luck installing one codec on a clean install, not like it, remove it, install another one, and had it work properly. Just a heads up.
That being said, I have used CCCP and K-Lite in the past. I prefer the later.
Codec packs are bad, mkay? Try out GOM player, if it doesn't have the codec to play something, it'll send you to their website to download the specific codec.
I've had a lot of slowdown / wait times while trying to skip around video files with codec packs. With only the specific codecs I need, I've had no problem.
Good to know KLite is still the winner here... I was thinking since CCCP came out more recent than KLite, it would be better but apparently not.
And by the way, the latest Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1 (in the packs) has loudness/distortion issues. Downloaded 6.4.9.0 and it is problem free... FYI to anyone who has come across this.
