CCC and ATITool used together: a good idea?

I've been using CCC and ATITool at the same time. Partially because I don't have much experience with either. There are a lot of tweaks in games people say you have to change in CCC, so I go and I tweak.

But I've also needed to adjust my fan speeds because my card goes to 90C in games on stock fan settings, so I change those in ATITool, as I haven't seen an option to do this in CCC. (I now max at 78C, btw)

So is this bad? Should I not use CCC and ATITool at the same time? I haven't noticed any harm, but maybe I'm throttling my performance and don't know it?

As a follow up, is 78C too high for an x1950xt? I was a bit worried about the temps, and I've just bought a VF900 and will install shortly, hopefully this will help.

it's fine to use ATITool and CCC together. as for temps, 78C seems about right to me for load temps with the stock cooling, and NO 78c will not damage the card. these chips are designed to take some serious heat. when it gets over 90C, then you can start to worry. I jack my fan speed up to 64%, it helps keep the card cooler and the sound isn't nearly as bad as 100%

Qft. I had stock cooling, but couldn't stand how loud it was.... but when I did have it I kept the fan speed to around 70%.

My card in ( in sig ) idles at 38 and the load NEVER goes above 40 C. That is with ( 2 ) 92 mm fans in my case. Where's the option in the pole below 60c ? Cause this IS stock cooling.

my stock Sapphire hangs in the mid-to upper 40s ... and will hit low80s when i o/c'd it
[can't o/c because of my weak PS]

and my NB fan is louder than my x1950p :p

i still haven't fixed it

I have the X1900XTX version of that card, and I find that hard to believe. What are the fan settings for that thing? The default settings here don't even ramp up the fan to over 90% until after 90C.

Mine actually crashes if I let the fan ramp up automatically, after hitting 100C or so. It doesn't speed up fast enough at all. Although I prefer a constant speed in any case and have ATI Tool set it to 80% whenever I load up a game. The maximum temperature I get with this is about 82C. I'm using a moderate overclock and a small voltage increase though.

Now that ATi Tray tool has full controls on X1K series, I'm quite happily using that and nothing else.

It's no problem to use CCC and ATi Tool together, but there's a nice all-in-one alternative. ;)

Is there any tool that tells you what speed your mem chips are?(like 2.0ns or 1.6ns) I have a X800GTO or somethig that has been flashed to an X800XT 500/500 speeds with an R420 core as ID by ATiTool.

I bought it off ebay as a X800XT and it has an AC5 cooler or something on it and I don't feel like pulling off the unit to look under at the mem chip ratings. Been a good card for 6mo or so that i've had it.

Using both at the same time should be fine just don't try to change the card's 2D/3D settings on both of them because you can have some unusual results.

I use CCC to control my video and speeding settings, along with Rivatuner to set my fan speed to 100% at Windows startup on my X1800XT. I am using an AC Accelero X2, and this combination has worked great for the last 10 months.
