For the first portion of the 13th season of "Survivor," which premieres Sept. 14, the contestants competing for the $1 million prize while stranded on the Cook Islands in the South Pacific will be divided into four teams blacks, Asians, Latinos and whites.

The show's host, Jeff Probst, said the network was aware this season's race ploy might offend viewers.

"It's very risky because you're bringing up a topic that is a hot button," he told asap, The Associated Press service for younger readers. "There's a history of segregation you can't ignore. It is part of our history.

I think reality TV is really scraping the bottom of the barrel lately. Who do you think would win, anyway? It does say they are going to do this for the 'first' part, though, so maybe they are too chicken to have it include the 'best' overall race. It's too bad, I would like to see the discussions that would come from that!

 
If that was the premise for the entire season, I'd watch it for the first time.
 
Who wants to bet the Asian team gets ass pwned early on? It'll be rigged that way to ensure a quick downfall.

Whether Americans are pro-white or pro-black, what they can usually agree on is being anti-Asian.
 
Frankly I don't watch any network TV period unless there's sports on, I would advise everyone else to do the same. If you stop watching maybe it will light a creative spark under their butts so they start making real programming again, instead of this contrived garbage.

I would tend to disagree with your prediction.

I think, through the observations that I have had, that the Asian culture is one that is dedicated to working hard for the good of the group and not so much the individual. Scores have also shown that this has affected their across the board gradings as far as education goes as well.

The other groups; whites, blacks and hispanics, have been conditioned to work more under the guise of "How can I get everyone to help me reach my goal" type mentality throughout recent history.

If anything, I believe that they(Asians) will be the strongest of the groups.

And what was it they have been scraping for the last 12 seasons. They have always pandered to the basest of sensibilities; this is no different.

I have no idea from which orafice you pulled that idea. You honestly think there is a giant, nation-wide conspiracy of anti-Asian mentality and those feelings will be exploited in this semi-popular reality TV show to pander to those who sympathize with the anti-Asian movement? 😕
 
LOL...bold move.

I doubt the white team has a chance.

1- If they win someone will cry foul even if they are not directly involved and have the ACLU at the CBS front door.

2- They will loose just for that reason.

This about making money for CBS and I highly doubt they want to loose it by giving it to lawyers to defend themselves.





 
The merge is going to happen earlier in this season then....

For anyone that watches Survivor, usually toward the middle and second half of each Survivor series, the teams are merged into one team.
This is purely a stunt by CBS to cause some drama, in hopes of gathering more fans. CBS knows Survivor is getting long in the tooth.. this crap has been on for what will now be 13 seasons. It was the same $hit, with every season.. so I guess CBS had to spice it up a bit.
 
What a stupid idea...I'm pretty sure ever possible group will be offended. Hell, it hasn't even STARTED and everyone from whiney black people to whiney white people (Wheezer) are already bitching about it.

If the Asians are Chinese then i hope the Black people and the Asians tie. If not then im going for the black people.
I hate tv.
 
Sweet, they're slowly edging towards GTAs' Liberty City Survior!
This year its by race.
Next year its by race with guns.
After that they'll just forget about the races and let convicts fight it out.
And finally it will be convicts in an urban setting with guns!
I would seriously watch that.

Well no, see I was not whining as you put it, I was merely stating how absurd and
unbalanced it will be.

Pesonally I hate the show...I hate all reality TV. Why? Because it's not real...you see what the producers want you to see. They have an agenda and they will manipulate what you see to fit that agenda.

It is a sad state our society is in when these types of shows are so damned popular.
 
Really a bad idea to start the race thing. But it fits, considering the fascist tendencies of our current administration.

Ha, I watch it too, but I missed a few seasons here and there, including the first.

I'd imagine that the people who came into this thread to proudly state their disgust at the viewers of this particular program as well as whatever else falls into the category of reality tv would find much in common with this man. Good thing I don't live my life in the eyes of others, because I can only imagine what people must think of those who, I don't know, watch sports on tv. Or soap operas. Or science fiction programs.

I can't speak for murikans, but consider that because you are asian, you are hyper-sensitized to percieve things that appear to you to be anti-asian. It's all in your mind, is what I'm saying.
 
I stopped watching survivor after 1st season. I might check this one out because it's very politically incorrect in our PI society.

What does one have to do with the other? How is it fascist? Fascism is the total domination of the government over its people; what does dividing a reality tv show into racial teams (in which they all have an equal chance to win) have to do with this administration?

Last I checked this administration is nowhere near fascist (I don't agree with many of their positions and policies but to call it fascist is ridiculous).
