What is the difference between the pay version and the free version?

Me and some friends want to start playing (but haven't played before) so we're a bit ancy about paying $100+ for it when we don't know a lot about it yet!

What do you get in their free version / what's the difference?

Thanks :D

Umm, I think they send you stuff to draft with, like an oversized draft board and pre-named, color-coded stickers. It's pretty cheesy but they try, not sure what else is included though, maybe free stat updates?

Is the real-time scoring feature available on the free version? Our group has used CBS for the past 3 years. I've used ESPN and Yahoo for fantasy football, but I prefer CBS' interface.

Yeah, I'm not sure... if its just being able to customize scoring and stuff, and the realtime scoring, I can live with the free version since its the first time playing :)

Just trying to figure out if I'm going to miss anything else important!

While real-time scoring is neat and all, there isn't really any strategic advantage to it since you can't change anything once games have started anyway...

Surely there must be some good reason why people pay the $129-149 to have their own league instead of doing the free one though?

We like having the ability to customize our scoring rules. When you have a 12 person league, $129 is not that expensive.

Well personally (especially for a first timer) I'm fine with the defaults...

A 12 person league is the goal though. I just want to justify spending it -- what do we get over the free version?

Been with the Sportsline pay-league for around 7 years now and couldn't imagine using a free service. If you don't think you need real time scoring then you haven't used it because it's the best part of monitoring the games on Sunday. You can really manipulate your league with the subscription service as well. Having complete control over every single rule (and even creating your own) is a great luxury. And everything stays in the system for the following year so you only have to enter team rosters for the new season. It also keeps track of your league's history, including a records page where you can see who holds the top honor for various categories over the years. There are a lot of other great features as well.

Also, once you do the pay league, you'll receive early bird discount options for future years. Sportsline had a few snags this year (first time we've experienced any) and they offered 50% off the subscription rate for the 2007-08 season which is nice.

I've played around with various services, both free and pay. And IMO, nothing comes close to Sportsline's subscription service for fantasy football.
