Ohhhh....you are one of those "She was asking for it because she was scantily clad" guys.

Some real winners here....

She was. Doesn't matter what we think, what matters is what's on the ground in real world. Don't go walking around fundis as a scantly clad western woman you will get raped.

All the fuzzy multiculturalism and religion of peace stuff is pure bullshit to appeal to our sensibilities. Not real. Once you believe it it can get you killed/raped.

Don't believe me? take a walk across Algeria, Egypt or Pakistan. I may get to see a youtube video of another head get cut off from another idiot.

Obviously anyone raised in the West is indoctrinated that woman should be able to go where-ever without fear - but that is not the case in Muslim lands. Hence all the covering sometimes only eyes showing depending on region.

This kind of stuff happens quite a bit in the European-North Africa-Middle Eastern world. It's nowhere near the worst. For example, Europe is experiencing a plague of incestual father-daughter incest/rape.

I traveled to Egypt with a female family member last year and unfortunately this is not at all surprising. I would advise any woman traveling to a Muslim country to dress extremely conservatively to avoid attracting attention.

Lara Logan is both a very beautiful woman and an excellent correspondent for 60 Minutes. I wish her all the best in getting past this, and hope she's going to be ok.

There is a reason these backwards countries do not get to sit at the same level on the world stage with us.

We bribe their secular-ish governments to be our "allies", the population are still anti-jew, anti-gay, anti-women fundies. And by "Anti-gay", I dont mean marriage. I mean they will be killed.

Until fundamentalist Islam is gone, that whole area will be a shit-hole.

They already seem to be on the same level on the world stage with us.

Hearing this kind of stuff really pisses me off. It's too bad the people who did this will never face the type of justice they truly deserve.

I think he was saying that you have this attractive American lady who was in the midst of a crowd of people who likely had been chewing on qat for several days. Plus this is in a country in the midst of a revolution ousting a U.S. supported leader and there was no active police patrols. She wasn't asking for q sexual assault, but it was very stupid for CBS to put her in that situation. She was surrounded by opportunists. A blonde headed women will stand out like a sore thumb in that crowd... and there was an opportunity to assault her.

You don't rape a international news corespondent with a large crowd cheering on just because of revolution, it doesn't happen anywhere else and we have covered a lot of revolutions. Oh and if you believe the reports claiming that Egypt is an emerging democracy, and not a theocracy, please call me about beach front property I got.

I was shocked that Katie Couric was down in the streets of Cairo last week. She looked uneasy and I thought that she was putting herself in danger. CBS whisked her out of there fast and she was back in New York the next day.

This Lara Logan may be a knowledgeable reporter, but pretty faces in a hostile setting can lead to mayhem. Would they send her into a protest of a white cop shooting a black man in Detroit?

Hey prick, over there you call it an attack here its called tailhook.

If I'm not mistaken some of the same things can happen at spring break. Egyptians and black people aren't the only ones capable of boorish behavior.

She's just lucky she was whisked away. If she were in a Sharia country, she'd be an adulteress and subject to death by stoning for her crimes.

I'm sure I'll regret this but do you have any reporting on this issue at all? I hadn't heard about it and a quick 'muslim rape sweden' google revealed TONS of hard right wing websites repeating the same 2 or 3 blog posts associating rape and muslims without you know, evidence. At the bottom of it all was an Amnesty International piece on rape in Sweden that doesn't mention Islam at all. So I'd be curious if you can find any non NY Post type articles that present any factual evidence of some association between rapes and muslims, or if you're just repeating what you heard.

From the source, Clerics, is that good enough? Probably too right wing for you, it is for me, but here ya go all it took was googling "women asking for it" "clerics"

So basically a Rand Paul rally broke out in Egypt. Despite that, the revolution still happened and thats all that matters.

Do you ever say anything that isn't ripe with ignorance, and mental retardation?

Nah this is just an isolated incident and women have a right to go anywhere. CBS needs to send Katie Couric, Kelly Cobiella, Julie Chen and all the other CBS girls over there and do week live from Egypt all over with no security.

I'm not sure if she's a naturalized citizen or not, but she's from South Africa, not the USA.

That said... This incident reinforces the stereotype that the Islamic world is pretty much just a worthless shithole, and that the Muslims who live there are the worst that humanity has to offer.

Also, from here:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/02/15/60minutes/main20032070.shtml

She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved

They're already here in force. You have HomerJS trying to equate this to a Spring Break event. Please. This was supposed to be a celebration of democracy. Again, nowhere else but a Muslim country would a celebration in the name of democracy turn into a raping. This is not a rape in some resort town.

Funny thing is, if Mubarak was still in control this would've never happened. Goes to show that like Saddam, these countries seem to do better when ruled by iron fist.

I believe your right. When that demented thug Lyndie England was stacking Arab ass pyramids she to was in the Iraq. A Muslim country! Or was Abu Gharib not a celebration of democracy?

You people are despicable and pathetic. Your paranoias and bigotry are blatant and shameful. You people are god damned to live in the fucking shit so yall so deservedly earned. Continue biting and snarling at your boogeymen while the world embraces a democratic Egypt and leaves you people to stew in your bunkers.

Interesting - after beating down by Mukareks thugs two weeks ago she goes back w/o a security detail.
http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/lara-logan-egypt-assault-5241788
On returning to Egypt a week after being detained and expelled: "Part of me feels like it's really insane, but the other part of me made a very considered, rational decision with my teammates."

On who she was traveling with: "I'm not the only one going back, my producer is coming with me. And with my husband. We made this decision together. And with my boss."

On the precautions they'd be taking: "We've made sure that the Egyptian embassy in the U.S. knows we’re going. They're fully aware of it. They know what our purpose is, that we're journalists. We’ve made every effort to try and get media accreditation before we left, but the Embassy said because of the backup they couldn't [get it to us], so they're trying to help us on the ground. There are no surprises here this time. It is a better plan. Again, it's not foolproof, you know?"

On worrying about a repeat scenario: "Sure, of course you can never discount [that], it would be foolish to discount that possibility."

On traveling with private security: "No. We are not. It's been so chaotic. I think we do have a security person on with us now, on our team, but I haven't had a chance to even address that."

On her threshold for danger this time: "Last time we had to leave because the problem we had was that they had photographed us, they were tracking us, they said they would find us wherever we went and we had no paperwork. This time, we are going in to interview the head of the ruling party, these people have said they will do their utmost to assist us and to protect us. The'’re not giving any guarantees, but definitely that helps, since the current regime is still in power. [As long as] the ruling party is still the ruling power, then that stands for something. If that's no longer the case by the time we land, if they’re out, then it’s not an issue anymore. We're not pretending to be tourists and we’re not saying we’re not journalists, that we’re not saying we're not there to cover the protests. It’s very obvious why we’re there, and we can say we know the Egyptian government knows why we’re there, and we can say we have names and numbers we can give them of people they can call."

Blah blah blah meaningless drivel, "hope and change", "ordinary moms and dads just like us". But I quote the bold for posterity.

ok...

http://wikiislam.net/wiki/Rape_in_Islam

Tho in this case I guess the people who raped Lara will be going to hell because

(1) She wasn't their captive
(2) They didn't wait one menstrual cycle

In the link you provide, here is the verse from the Kuran, not someone else's interpretations:

Verse 4:24
Also (forbidden are) women already married, except those whom your right hands possess. Thus has Allah ordained for you. All others are lawful, provided you seek them from your property, desiring chastity, not fornication. So with those among them whom you have enjoyed, give them their required due, but if you agree mutually after the requirement (has been determined), there is no sin on you. Surely, Allah is Ever All-Knowing, All-Wise.

Where does it say it's OK to rape the wives of the infidels you kill on the battlefield? All it says is it's OK to have sex with your slaves, provided it's not for fornication only, and if you give them their due, and if you agree mutually.

By the way, slavery was horrible, regardless of what religion slave owners practiced. I wish the founding fathers had not owned slaves, or slept with them (or raped them, in your description). And I wish the US had abolished slavery much before 1860s

And, if you want to discuss battlefield rapes, you may want to ask Georgian women about Sherman's march to the ocean ... though they were not muslims
