Sweet. Draft fears hurt Bush the most; I know many college age adults who are voting in this election solely for the reason that they fear Bush will bring back the draft through his pre-emptive policies.

I say, whatever gets Bush out of office

Kennedy and Johnson were the morons who got us into Vietnam. They used the draft to feed their war. Nixon got us out. Now the GOP has to kill another democrat draft bill. Libs are stupid. And you are stupid if you believe them.

You actually need to watch more than just C-span. You are sort of correct. The Republicans have in fact been keeping something sitting in committee for nearly 2 years. You obviously haven't a clue what it is though. I will tell you what it is. What the Republicans have kept sitting in committee for 2 years is Democrat Charlie Rangels bill to bring back the draft. Those Republicans are the reason Rangels draft bill has never been allowed out of committee. Thats how you stop a stupid bill if your the majority party you bottle it up in committee which is what the Republicans have done for the past 2 years ever since Rangel started this nonsense. What would be more accurate for you to say is that the Democrats have had something concerning a new draft stuck in committee for 2 years but can't get to the floor because of those evil Republicans.

Amazing ?.

Only in America can an opposing political party create legislature that would reinstate the draft, and find a way to make the other party look responsible for it.

Both of those bills were exclusive projects of the Democratic Party (16+ cosponsors in all). The only two people who voted on these bills were Democrats, even though the inventor of the bill (Rangel) told his own party not to vote for it (because it was an election year and it would make their party look bad).

Even after all of this?.The MTV generation is still in the dark as to what this administrations stance on the draft is. The best part is in how they find them self taking sides with the legislatures that actually tried to reinstate the draft.

In a lot of ways, I hope that Kerry wins, that his disciple fear mongers become successful at getting another round of draft legislation passed.

That would be a truly fitting ending for the people who were too dense to decipher this topic, but decided to vote anyways, based off of knee jerk responses that they had obtained from untrustworthy sources.

Clearly, as soon as Bush is re-elected they are going to start drafting poor college students into the AF Reserve and Coast Guard. Probably the Merchant Marines too.

what don't you guys get about there not being a draft? There is no point to have a draft because it will cost thousands of dollars to train soldiers, equip them, pay them, etc..just to sit around doing nothing. Nowadays our soldiers are trained much more rigorously and have much more expensive equipment than the vietnam era. Back then everyone was just a foot soldier with basic training. Now you go through months and months of rigorous training, and the backbone of our military is our special forces.
