cbs distorting the facts and editing to make child sound violent..

Waggy is right on on this.

The kid said he wanted a gun because he wanted to be a police officer. The news station edited an excerpt to make it fit into a 'black kids in urban neighborhoods are thugs from the age of 4' narrative that misled the listeners to hear the boy wanted a gun FOR THE PURPOSE of criminal shootings like had just occurred. The station staff should be punished.
 
Yeah I agree, though it's more likely the station's bias was toward sensationalism than racism. Portraying a young inner city kid saying he wants a gun makes middle class people watching the tube purse their lips and say, "what is our world coming to!" We are in love with our moral outrage in this culture. This sort of stuff sells.
 
Fox News would have pointed out,.... (long pause as the anchor stares into the camera),... that his mother voted for Barack Hussein Obama .

And, that if you arranged the letters in his name, added a few letter, punctuation and scarry sounding music, his name would spell; "Socialism is the future of America, bow down before your Communist Muslim Terrorist Overlords,... NOW!!"

Soooo, we are talking about CBS here and not FOX. But glad to hear the same talking-points about FOX again and again.

Regarding the OP- as someone above mentioned this is sensationalism. Stations will do whatever it takes to get high ratings. I don't think their agenda is to convince the world that most kids in projects are ghetto thugs from the age of four. Rather, they want to make the story dramatic.

This isn't about the NRA.

This is about a kid wanting to be a cop, and then being portrayed as if he is a thug looking for a gun again, biased reporting.
 
Sensationalist and dishonest reporting, pretty much a hallmark of the modern media. I don't see any signs of racism though.

That dude responded to the OP and referenced the NRA. Your entire graph post was about what FOX News would have done. Nobody asked what FOX would have done, and you could have mentioned it as an aside but instead you didn't even talk about your feelings regarding what CBS did do.

Post #7 is Fearnoevil posting a ridiculous claim that this act by a CBS affiiliate somehow proves attacks on Fox are not correct.

(Actually, I'm doing him favors, that's the implication of his nonsense with a sputtered phrase that's what he actually posted, but he brought up Fox in the thread).

In the following post #8, Macamus, apparently responding, pointed out that Fox is not exonerated by this station doing something bad, posting his opinion on Fox.

And yet you did not say a word about post #7 apologizing for Fox so ridiculously, instead you only attack post #8 like he brought up Fox out of nowhere. Why is that?
 
There is only one way to interpret the clip and that is that it was edited, whether deliberately or other, in a way that severely changes the context of the boy's statements and makes it appear like he wants to follow in gangbangers' foot steps (though not necessarily racist--this accusation only made because he's black) and not those of police. Any response to the contrary is bullsh*t, buck up, people.

OP was right, of course, the station did a piss poor job of editing this.
 
they didn't do anything WRONG.... he said what he said and that wasn't distorted...... but it was taken out of context, the same way most everything can be taken out of context to make a news story

Taking things out of context when it greatly misrepresents what was said IS "something wrong".

I'm a big supporter of the politics of Alan Grayson, but he did the same thing when in an attack ad, he misrepresented what his opponent had said by out of context quoting.

I contacted his office to say it was immoral.

These media 'narratives' are really a big problem for the media IMO. They happen in political campaigns, like where every story would raise 'is Al Gore lying' type questions.

Some of the political campaign staff are quite good at planting these 'narratives' and manipulating the press. Lazy reporters adopt them.

Here's one article about the example above, 'pack journalism', in the Gore campaign that's one of many things that 'changed the election' (there are many with only 534 FL votes):
