CBS Beatles Special was surprisingly GOOD!

I forgot to ask about this last Sunday and I see it aired again last night. Did anyone catch the 50th Anniversary Beatles show? It was amazingly tasteful and the performances were simply outstanding! I was actually getting emotional during some of the songs 😀

I don't know if Ringo is taking some kind of anti-aging drug, getting surgery, eating babies....not sure...but he's 73 and looks and moves like a 45 year old. He was strutting, jumping, rocking---I couldn't believe it.

I thought it was pretty good. Some of the live performances were great (Adam Levine, John Mayer (as much as I hate to say I liked anything by that giant douche), etc.) whereas others were just "so so" (imagine dragons, katy perry). Its amazing how well the Beatles' music holds up.
 
It was on while I was at the gym. I caught Dave Grohl selling out a little more of his soul. I understand that The Beatles influenced music/rock for all generations to come, but I'm just not a fan of their music.
 
I did not like it. The performers mutilated the Beatles songs. They all tried to add their little twist to the songs and they all sounded terrible. The show was called Beatles, not imitators. If I was Paul or Ringo, I would be upset on how these people messed up the songs. People watched to see the Beatles and hear the Beatles, nothing else.

How is playing at a tribute concert selling out your soul? Dave Grohl likes to get out there and do stuff, good for him.

And one could make the argument that nearly every current rock band has been influenced to some extent by the Beatles.

You're that guy that gets upset when bands play live and they don't do the same versions they do on their albums, aren't you 😀

Paul and Ringo LOVE when people redo their songs...most musicians do. Not only is it an honor it's interesting to see the performer's own personality come through.

BTW- Joe Walsh and Peter Frampton TORE IT UP on that show.

And yea, Frampton and Walsh tore it up. Grohl did a good job with one of my fav Beatle songs, Hey Bulldog.

I got a tear in my eye when Grohl said something like "You were my dad's favorite band, you are my favorite band, and now you're my daughter's favorite band", then his little daughter stood up and made the heart shape with her hands. Can you imagine having someone say that about something you did?
 
The most talented Beatle and then only one I would tune in to watch died 13 years ago and I certainly have no interest in watching Ringo or Paul perform. I have no doubt the "50 year anniversary show" was an excuse for a bunch of baby boomers to hold a wake ceremony for their long-gone youth and gave them a great excuse to tell themselves and anyone forced to listen how great they and their music was.

Thank you Mr. I Judge Things I Didn't Even Watch Elitist. If that's all it was, everyone wouldn't have been saying how awesome it was.

While I wouldn't call him the least talented of the four, it's hard to believe that most would think he eclipsed the synergism and/or creativity of the Lennon/McCartney team whether alone or together.

Of course, opinions are like assh@les.. everybody's got one. 🙂

I'm with you there- that guy's voice did NOT match the girl's at all. Katie Perry was the other weak act. She was trying to do some type of "breathy" singing that just did not work.

She tries all kinds of tricks on every song to make her voice sound slightly less crappy. Not sure how she's become so successful.

Because half the audience isn't paying attention to her voice, but rather about 12 inches lower.

Yes. So much good music on the show!

I cannot believe how amazingly awesome Frampton and Walsh performed. Legends then and now.

And Grohl's daughter was just too damn precious. 🙂
