During their recent review of 17 graphics cards, computerbase.de also investigated frame latency/frametimes of the 680 and the 7970 GHz in 9 games:

Their results in a nutshell:

  • frame latencies don't necessarily correspond with subjective perception
  • 3 out of 9 games ran more stuttery on the 7970 GHz despite higher fps (Alan Wake, Witcher 2 and Hitman: Absolution)
  • Basically each of those 9 games showed worse frametimes on the AMD card, so it doesn't seem like an isolated issue
I would have liked if they had tested Skyrim too. And finally they tested with recent drivers for all cards, that was a big negative in the past.

I'm glad you posted this. I was seriously considering a 7970 GHZ crossfire setup, but the frame latency issue a long with the fact that there are several other advantages to NVidia GPUs such as PhysX, the ability to force ambient occlusion in titles that don't support it etcetera has made me decide to go with NVidia again..

Kind of a shame really, because AMD really is the better buy right now..

Sorry, didn't see the other one there. But since the poster just provided the link and no opinion or analysis, I think mine is better :D

New: Ambient Occlusion support (DirectX 9/10/10.1/11). Please bear in mind that not all games can be forced to use Ambient Occlusion. RadeonPro currently supports Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion (HBAO) and Volumetric Ambient Occlusion, different algorithms might be added in future. A list of supported games can be seen at end of changelog (see complete listing at Program Settings/Ambient Occlusion), the list will be updated based on author's tests and also based on feedback from users that have access to Ambient Occlusion debugging tool (TBD).

Quite a few titles as well!

This Radeon Pro tool is very welcomed!
