Cavalry 1TB Hard Drive and USB 3.0 Black 2-bay Dock $49 AR

I'm 2-0 and my cousin, who got me into doing rebates, is 7-0. You're either extremely unlucky or doing something wrong.

more like you are extremely lucky.. well 2 out of 2 aint shiit.. Im like 4 out of 7.. ocz hates to give me money i stopped even counting on rebates. They always say "not by right date" or upc not included and of course i make sure of both before sent.

I was tempted but im so paranoid with all hds now.. the dock seems to get more bad then good reviews.. hmmm any info on the drive?

This.

I got this dock for $28 AR and I got my rebate. Haven't had any problems with the dock, either.

Pretty hot price for the dock and a 1TB drive.

ive gotten every rebate i ever sent except for one from way back i think my first like in 2002 it was 70$ rebate for a 80GB WD.

edit: was interested in this but several reviews mentioning it only working in 2.0 mode not 3.0? Would hate buying it finding this out since its the selling point in my eyes

My rebate record is 31 out of 35.

I used to total mine up but I know I am pushing at least 800 rebates since I've been here at anandtech. I've only have had one that wouldn't pay. It was for a Kaser video card. many years back.

Mind you, I have had to fight for a few but I stay away from shady ones which is why I inquired if there were troubles specifically with cavalry rebates.

I've never had a problem with a rebate, and I've done more then I can count.

the reviews are less then stellar, but mostly due to the USB 3.0. Might go ahead and order it.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programing after that slightly off topic rebate rant.....
So this docking thing actually lets you plug in an internal HD and access info on it?

Yes.

Just remember, USB 3.0 will require you to make sure you have updated your BIOS and drivers. My ASUS motherboard USB 3.0 drivers didn't actually work on my dock (I have a NexStar dual dock) - it recognized the device, but not the drives. After I recently updated the BIOS and drivers, the dock works great now - as fast as if the drives were hooked up directly to SATA.

Most of the bad reviews are likely because people have bad USB 3.0 drivers and need the BIOS update. I have no idea why the drivers and motherboards wouldn't work out of the box, other than the fact that there really weren't a lot of USB 3.0 devices available when these motherboards first cam out.

Also remember that hot swapping on a dual dock is a bad idea while you are accessing the other drive. I generally shut down the dock before swapping drives.

This seems like a pretty good deal, just for the dock, let alone getting a 1TB drive thrown in with it.

This is completely off the OP's topic - but:
I've only had one rebate refused - By MSI. I didn't include a receipt New Egg didn't provide. Now I boycott all MSI products, and am weary of New Egg rebates.

I once turned in a $100 HP rebate 1 week late - and they still honored it. Props to them.

Part of my boycott MSI campaign is to "out" them every chance I get.
My apologies to the OP.

I got my rebate from Diamond a few years ago, but never mine from Corsair, so I'm 1-1. Personally I don't like MIR either, but this deal seems pretty good. How is Cavalry with HDDs?

You didn't mail the receipt?

That sounds like your fault. :hmm:

New Egg doesn't include receipts for any of their products.
I included shipping invoice and bar code. MSI knew there was no chance the drive wasn't purchased legitimately. Bad companies will go the extra mile to screw you out of a buck.
Why New Egg stopped including receipts with their products is another question, and reason to be wary of all rebates offered by New Egg vendors.

With MSI and Newegg I've simply printed out the receipt they email you when you complete the purchase, its always worked for me.

Tristicus, looks like it comes with a Cavalry Dock and a Hitachi HDD

I've had no problems with MSI rebates.

I mail them the printed order receipt from the ordering process (or you can always go back later to print it).

Seriously, why are rebates so difficult for people?

Include all required documents, make photocopies (or scanned PDFs) to keep handy, use FoxIt Pro to fill in fields of PDF forms (makes things nice and legible) and turn them in ON TIME.

It's not hard.

One suggestion on rebates. Lay out all the paperwork in a close pile, and take a picture of it. Put a sticky note in there mentioning the pic. It kinda blows their argument about missing paperwork when you have a pic of the stuff.

also, type a legal document describing the picture and what you did with the contents right after the photo. go to your local bank and have that letter notarized. ship it via fedex in a rigid box too, with signature and delivery confirmation. the MIR itself can pay for all the time you just wasted, so MIR's pay for themselves!:sneaky:

This. There ARE companies that are notorious for looking for ways to deny you and there are ALSO far too many instances of people swearing they included everything and still got denied for all of them to be deluded or lying.

Therefore, you've got to go the extra step or two and document, document, document.

Got a set today and accidently hooked it up to usb 2.0 ports on a p8p67 all went well except when i notice my file transfer was going 30mb/s. When i noticed it was on usb 2.0 i switched to usb 3.0 and the included hitachi drive keeps looping and windows 7 cannot detect it and keeps asking me to format it only to then say it cant be found. After opening device manager it refreshes to the looping noise the hitachi drive makes. I have 1305 bios on this board with usb 3.0 enabled, and latest nec/renesas drivers installed so i dont understand why it is not working.

I have tried to reformat the drive on the usb 3.0 port through acronis bootable media, at first it would not let me do it, but after reboot it did just as when i first initialized accidently on usb 2.0. Did i need to format it in windows enviornment?
