I can't figure this out.

This is an AMD X2 desktop computer I built a year ago or so for a client. He is calling and saying that whenever he leaves the computer and comes back to work on it, he has to reboot it cause it has hung.

So far I have thrown out Norton AntiVirus and replaced with Avast. I have gone through the normal spyware softwares and cleanup. Not much.

I even put the screensaver to "None". He hasn't installed any new software for the past month that he knows about.

I do not want to do a re-install cause it would be a royal pain since some of his specialized software has to be configured all over again and that took 10+ hours last time. And no, we can't just copy the software directories and replace all the files...this software saves some special files somewhere I can't figure out. That's the reason for the 10+ hours for customization data.

Anyways, I digress....can anyone point me in a general area where to look under the hood? Could it actually be hardware errors?

There was a XP hardware error message he had gotten once, but that message was generic.

THanx

Here are specs:
- AMD X2 3800+
- 1gig Ram with 600MB Available under Performance tab
- 75 Gig HD with 57 Gigs free - defragmented recently NTFS Formatted
- GeForce 6800 with 256MB Video. Bios Ver: 5.41.02.37.71

Thanx for that and that is my very last last resort.

As I have mentioned above, re-install would just be a pain and would be long. I would think it would take about 15-18 hours to re-install and do all that.

I would rather try and find this one piece of software or hardware and replace.

Anyone know of any obvious conflicts with XP and the hardware that I am not aware of? Did the latest XP Pro updates install a 'buggy' software?

Antec powersupply. I believe it is 450w..I would have to physically check though. Anyway, I can tell by control panel? Reason is that I connect to this computer remotely.
