This *could* be Rut Roh:

  • EXCLUSIVE: Bush administration to release tapes that could incriminate Iraq. ?Hold onto your hat,? says one U.S. intelligence official, ?we?ve got it.?

By Michael Isikoff and Michael Hirsh
    NEWSWEEK WEB EXCLUSIVE

Jan. 31 ? The Bush administration is preparing to release supersensitive electronic intercepts obtained by the National Security Agency that officials say prove that Iraq has repeatedly lied to United Nations inspectors, plotted among themselves about how to conceal weapons material and even appeared to boast afterward at their success in doing so, NEWSWEEK has learned.

MSNBC Link, Popping up eslewhere also.............

If these are confirmed and proven "legit" as they say, this could be something significant.

Um, are you even reading the piece? As put by one official, "perhaps this could be the tool we have needed to make Iraq divuldge all their secrets and avoid a war."

Ever think that maybe, just maybe this will make Saddam go into exile and make Iraq fess up and thus avoid war?????

If this next batch of evidence is as damning as the administration says it is then the thumbs up from the UN should be forthcoming. From what I read in the paper, a large portion of this evidence is supposed to be satellite photos of a bunch of trucks...supposedly removing stuff from buildings shortly before the inspectors arrived. The question is what if this new batch isn't enough to get the nod from the UN or bring in those who aren't yet convinced? Will we just throw up our arms and say, "To Hell with it. Whoevers coming, c'mon." And push the button?

I really don't think that anybody believes that Hussien and his group of Dirty Sanchezes have destroyed the WMD's, they just question the wisdom of acting against him without the help of the other nations. We are going to go in there and disarm Iraq, Bush just needs to do his job and convince them to join us and it seems that he is failing big time to do that. Clinton was able to do it in Bosnia and Kosovo and the real Bush was able to do that for the Gulf War. Hell Junior isn't even doing a good job of convincing his own people of the necessity of a full blown armed conflict.

Its easier to be a cynical sheep than work toward a succesful outcome. There wouldn't anything to bitch and whine about then.
It so.......French!;)

Clinton couldn't get the UN either. The US & UK bullied the rest of NATO into limited support. Wow Those 5 Tornados the Germans sent really helped out, didn't they...

For the past two months, ever since the U.N. inspectors re-entered Iraq and began searching for weapons of mass destruction, the NSA has been closely monitoring the conversations of Iraqi officials. The NSA intercepts establish conclusively that the Iraqis have been ?hiding stuff? from the inspectors, the U.S. intelligence official said.

Everyone realizes of course that if this is the evidence that SoS Powell is taking to the table next week, it's not the rock solid evidence that President Bush said he had months ago.

At least he was able to get Nato to do something. I'm not saying Dubya can't just that he has yet to do it.

?They?re saying things like, ?Move that,? ?Don?t be reporting that? and ?Ha! Can you believe they missed that?,? the official said. ?It?s that kind of stuff.?

Is it just me, or does the above quote not sound like something a "U.S. intelligence official" would say.

I got the impression the euros talked us into carrying the ball for them in bosnia

Bush 1 had a much better case in 1991 for use of military force and still had trouble convincing France, Russia and China to come onboard

Nato countries excepting France and Germany are in. Both will join before the fireworks.

F&G have two real concerns which make them drag their feet.

French companies have $$$$ owed to them by Sadam and want to get paid. Note that most of the French cabinet are under some form of bribery investigation. It doesn't take much of a leap to figure out who is doing the bribing - import/export firms and energy concerns

The Germans did most of the recent dirty deals in Iraq - Many highlighted noteably in the Iraqi disclosure to the UN. Can you imagine what didn't get reported (yet)? . A blast from the past may highlight what's in store. Germany "gave" Israel 3 new Dolphin-class submarines after the Gulf war. This was an "apology" since the SCUDs fired at Isreal had German designed warheads.

Not too pretty

I guess if you think this is about an immediate threat from WMD it could be interesting.

Nope, 99.9% sure it's not, but, if it is taped video & audio proving Saddam has been moving WMD etc and spying on the inspectors to stay a step ahead of inspection while also maintaining he has NO Wmd...................I'd say that would be something!;) Not neccessarily a precurser to war IMHo, but perhaps enough to make people see Saddam does have WMD and is lying and consequently forcing Saddam/Iraq to come completely clean thus avoiding war!:)

Agreed, EndGame. Not interesting, particularly, as a justification for war. I already assume he's hiding weapons.
