hello recently i decided to treat myself to something special around christmas. i was thinking of either buying an HDTV and eventually a ps3 for it or buy a a very very good gamming computer. right now i am 17 and am going to be a senior next year, and after i graduate i am going to go to culinary school. at the culinary school they offer you places to stay but im not sure they will allow you to upgrade to hdtv. also if i were to upgrade my computer it would besomething like this..

4400+x2(already have)
dfi nf4 lanparty4(already have)
r600(have a pci-e x850 pro)
2 gigs of ram, but not sure what to get yet(have 1 gig, 2x512, of average ram)
x-fi soundcard(have a sound blaster live 24bit right now)
lian-li case or any other full tower case that has good cooling(have a "normal" desktop tower that doesnt get good airflow so everything overheats easily)
19'' lcd monitor(had a 15'' lcd monitor but it broke so i have to use a really old crt where i have to ducktape the cables in to make them from falling out).

thats pretty much it. i did some rough research and found out upgrading the computer will be about 1200 and about 1500 for the hdtv and 700 more for the ps3 and a game.

also all my life i have seen sdtv so going to hdtv would obviously be a big jump for me, but of course it will be about 2x as expensive. but i cant choose between the 2>_<. if anyone can help me out with making a decision that would be greatly appreciated.

Personally, unless you have another cache of money hidden somewhere, I'd save it instead of spending it on something big. You WILL need money in college, you won't be able to work as much or at all, and having a decent amount in savings is a great thing.

An HDTV would be a good thing to buy for yourself when you graduate from culinary school.

It would be a foolish purchase today. You will need that money.

You'd be amazed at how many students sell stuff for pennies on the dollar because they need the money instead of the nice toys they bought for themselves.

I'd save your money. I wish I hadn't bought so much crap before college. If you're set on money, I'd go with the computer upgrade.

well its like this. i got about 1/3 of my college money already in bank accounts. so that leaves roughly 40,000 i need. so that will come from loans/scholarships. also at this school they make you have 2 700hour paid internships so either way it still be in pretty good shape
