In the time it took me to run in and get my camera, the wasp had landed in the web and got wrapped up, had no idea they did that so fast!

Some of the pics i'm quite pleased with!
Taken with a Sony CyberShot P-200

Nothing takes their sweet time killing a wasp. If you are too slow, you get penalized in a painful way.

When they catch something, spiders move fast. It's disgusting and impressive at the same time...

Very nice pics!

Wow!! First time I've seen that :)

and like others mentinoed- nice bokeh. I actually like the first shot the most because the backgruond is not totally out of focus, but looks like a cartoon that was pasted on. Really cool :)

from when you saw it - how wrapped up was it, and how long did it take the spider to eat it? i'm guessing by the time you saw it, it was dead

btw:

spider silk is friggin strong...look at how the spider and the wasp are hanging at the tip~ pimp^2

Whats bokeh?

Well i saw some movement out the corner of my eye and looked over, by that time it was struggling and the spider had just started wrapping it up, i ran in to find the camera, must have been about 30 - 40 seconds, and it was already like you see in the pics.

It wasn't dead at that point, still moving its legs a little, very slowly though, must have been half paralised..

Ok, I want some proof that's it's a wasp. It sure looks like a bumblebee to me. A Bumblebee has a yellow/black color and has a bigger round body compared to a wasp's thin elongated body.
If you can pluck it out of the web carefully unwrap it and then snap a pic? Or if you want the spider to finish the meal, wait 'till tomorrow to do this.
BumbleBee

As for the spider, it's a type of Orb Weaver

Sorry for the wiki links, but for people that don't know, it's better to relate to this type of info.

You guys would cringe if you saw what my tarantulas do to the crickets I feed them. My biggest one will collect all of them on its fangs before it starts to eat them. Awesome and disgusting all at the same time.

Its not there anymore, plus its nighttime here so i wouldn't be able to get a good pic right now..

It looked kinda like this one.

It wasn't hairy like a bee is and not quite the same shape.

So... Video?

Sure. Next feeding will be this weekend so if there is a savage slaughter, I will record it and post. The snake also feeds today...I might record that as well but it makes me uneasy since I have a soft spot for baby mice.

Nice pics OP. I love spiders.

Reminds me of the time I swatted a fly with my ruler. I started to hear a continuous buzzing, but coming from the floor instead of the window, where I would normally hear it. I went to take a look and noticed that I had swatted it straight into a spider web. It was quite amazing to watch the spider paralyze and wrap it for later.
