Do cats mind moving? I am getting an apartment next fall in East Lansing and I can have a cat. My mom's dog always hassels my cat back at home. We live in the country and he likes to go outside, but spends a good portion of the day in doors. What should I do? I really like my cat and miss him greatly.

it will be stressful at first. but i'm sure the cat will be much happier in the long run being away from the dog if the dog is bothering the cat. do they just play or is the cat REALLY annoyed by the dog. cause the cat might end up missing the dog.

The dog always bites his ears. My cat seemsd alot less stressed before my mom got the dog. It used to never shed or act nervous, now it is always nervous and sheds all the time.

yeah i would say that the cat will eventually be better off. he will probably be a little stressed in a new environment at first. just make sure you move him when you can be home with him for the first couple of days. let him know you aren't leaving him alone. and maybe a few new toys and a scratching post. (but bring some of the cats favorite toys from home too...so he still feels at home). good luck pal!

When you move with a cat, you MUST keep it indoors for at least two weeks in your new place. Also, make sure the sh!tter box, food dishes and toys are all readily availible to the cat as soon as it get's there.

We just moved both of ours from canada to alabama on the weekend a good 1700 miles. They are indoor cats and the first time leaving this location in a year they had the fun of two air plane flights followed by another 4 hour car ride. They got here on saturday and since saturday they have shown almost no interest in food or water, although they do like treats. They "seem" in good spirits and are social and purr and stuff but obviously they are still stressed because they aren't eating anything at all really. I am guessing they'll get down to business soon though...

It'll adapt. I've moved many times with cats. They'll hide under the bed and stuff for a day or so and probably won't eat but they'll get over it.

Cat should be ok. Make sure not to leave it alone for too long at first... Give it the security it needs when it may be feeling venerable and confused.

Give it regular meals ie: dont be late for its dinner time for the first few weeks. Things like that.

Do that you should be ok

We just leave food in the pan all day and it eats when it wants to so feedng shouldn't be a probelm

My Himalayan is hilarious - anytime we do something unfamiliar, (car ride, moving to a new apartment, etc) he starts panting like a dog - tongue out a little bit, mouth breathing, it's a riot!! This lasts for 2-3 days before he chills out and goes to sleep. I need to get pics of that - moving in a month!

himalayans are cool. my grandma had one they're really soft and stuff. and they remind me of gremlins too.

I can't believe you mentioned Gremlins - you can't imagine how many people said he looked like Gizmo when he was a kitten, I'll have to get pics...

Now he's a huge ball of fur, looks 2 times as big as he really is. Quite a laugh when we give him a bath.
