LOS ANGELES (AP) - A group of hungry cats began to eat their 86-year-old owner after she suffered an apparent stroke and couldn't get up for nearly a week, officials said Thursday.

Note to self: NEVER GET CATS

The cats, apparently without food for that time, also tried to eat Lowrie's small dog

damn those cats have balls.

cats dont become severely emaciated after only a week of not having food. sounds like the old hag didn't take care of them in the first place and they were just exacting revenge.

They were only doing what they had to do to survive.

you never hear about dogs doing that stuff. dogs would've broken out of the house and got help! what lassie? grandma fell down and cats are eating her?

This is EXACTLY why I don't have cats.

That, and they'll try to steal your breath while you sleep.

Yep. Can't blame the cats for being hungry.

I heard about a similar case where an EMT found a dog that had started munching on its dead owner's face after the owner had a heart attack and wasn't found for a few days.

The worst part? His partner had let the dog lick her face before they found the owner. :Q

Both of my cats rule. I bet if I was a minature human I could play with them without fear of being eaten.
That's exactly what your cats want you to think, bub. 🙂

No, thats the little gnome guy. The cats protect you from the evil gnome guy who steals your breath.

WTF? The pic of a cat has nothing to do with the story, the owner, or even the United states?!?!?!

I clicked on the pic and went to a bigger version of the pic with this caption:
Kooshi, a seven-year-old mixed breed shorthair cat, hisses from his perch on the window ledge, inside his home in Rishon Letzion, Israel, Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003. The Israeli cat was banned by a local officials from circulating freely outside, apparently because its jet black color was frightening the residents. (AP Photo/Barak Pachter) ** ISRAEL OUT **

Yeah, i saw that, too. The frightening part about that cat isn't its color, though.
