Tomb Raider Legend: Enabling CrossFire no longer results in slower performance being noticed. Further details can be found in topic number 737-23448

Guess it's time to re-run those benchmarks, where CF was laughably slower than a single card. Took em long enough to fix it too, I wonder how much improvement CF shows now.

Any performance increases? These better be of higher quality than the 6.10's/9's/8's/7's...basically, they better give me a reason to keep them over Cat 6.6's.

so far not so good. Oblivion performance is still woefully lacking. I'm talking about halving my settings to get it to run smooth. I am flabbergasted. This is a fresh windows install, too. As soon as I installed my 'net drivers went to hardocp and got these...

unfubbing-believable. I'm going Nvidia next time :|:|:|:|:|:|:|:|

going back to 6.6

What do they mean exactly by "software" Crossfire support? Does that merely mean that no master card is required or does it mean I can do crossfire regardless of chipset?

I think it means Crossfire works over the pci-e bus with any x1900 cards, without the need for a master card or extra connectors. Of course I have no way of actually testing this idea, but that's how I read it.

They wouldn't do that would they? I mean, what company in their right mind would create a driver that makes one of their entire products worthless? (i.e. the X1900 master card)

I would imagine that you lose performance by not having an in-hardware compositing engine. I also imagine that the X1900 mastercard will soon be unavailable, and perhaps even the X1950 mastercard as well if they offer this option instead and all new models have the compositing engine on-die.

It would be more interesting if this relaxes the requirements of what chipsets crossfire can be run on. There are some technical limitations with regard to some chipsets but I am reasonably sure that some restrictions were purely marketing-driven. It made business sense to limit it to their own platforms mostly before, but now that AMD owns them I could see the possibility of them allowing it on Nvidia chipsets, especially on AMD platforms. In the prior case, it would be ATI only getting the sale on the cards and losing out on the chipset. Now there is the possibility of ATIAMD selling you a pair of cards and a CPU if you went with another vendor's chipset. 2 out of 3 ain't bad. :p

Well (if so) it wouldn't make them worthless: just no better than the standard xt card.

I don't think enough of the master cards made it to market to feed the step-wise upgraders, so it would be convenient solution and move a few more xt cards before R600.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. If you're going to go crossfire (don't) then you should ideally get a CF edition card. There will certainly be a performance loss otherwise.

I was happy with 6.6 until finding that Gothic 3 was very unhappy about that. The game ran 40-45 FPS but the motion was like, stuck on 3x fast forward. I could run across camp in all of 3 seconds. Even walking was so quick that I couldn't stop where I wanted to. Character movements looked like they were sped up 10 fold. Dialogue was accurate but the motion was horrible.

6.11 fixed it right up. Haven't played anything else with it yet; will my Oblivion be non HDR+AA capable again?

Not to change direction of the thread, but does this version include a fix so that I can view non-native resolutions on my widescreen without a distorted, skewed image?

thanks,

John

according to spec, your LCD is supposed to handle that. So then nvidias' option is a hack...a really good one, mind you. My LCD can do this and in CCC there is the option to use this.

Digital Panel Properties>Attributes>Use centered timings

I'm not sure what 6.14 is but download the drivers from either one of the 2 links I gave on my original post.

As I'm removing all the old files, do I also need to delete and/or remove my ATI Tool?

Also, it talks about removing something called DOA, yet it doesn't appear in my list.

thanks,

John

so... any reason to get these for a single card system (x1900xtx) such as performance improvements?
