Category Blocking bugs me

I know this has been posted before but anything relevant that I found was already archived so I'm whining about it in a new thread. This was one of the more relevant threads.

Basically, I want to block most categories so that I don't have to see them in my menus and stuff but when someone links to one of these categories I want to be able to follow the links without being told I don't have permission. I do have permission, but you're making me go to the trouble of going to my profile, unselecting every category (because I can't usually tell what category the link is to) and then going back and redoing it all after I've read what I want to read.

I see absolutely no benefit in denying me access just because I said I didn't want to see the categories during normal operation. As far as I'm concerned, the Category Blocking feature is completely useless now because it's more trouble to have it enabled then it is to deal with the extra categories. It would be such a nice feature if it weren't for this problem.

I guess I don't have a hope of this getting changed, but does anyone agree with me?
