Catastrophic problem when installing new nvidia driver

I was trying to update my old 23.12whql driver to the most current driver on the nvidia website.
So I first uninstall the old 23.12 driver and restart the computer, and here the hell break lose...
It would load the windowXP screen, but eventually it would turn black when it tries to access the video
mode and also changes the resolution. And it would stay black forever. I tried every way to counter this
problem.
1. removed the video card and plugged a different video card in,
2. changed other PCI cards around in fear of any conflicts
3. removed all PCI cards
4. tried safe mode, it would stuck loading at one of the AGP file.

None of them works. So what can I do? Please help.

System restore if you left it on. I leave it on even though their maybe a slight performance hit. Saved me from having to reinstall more than once.

try pressing F8 while it is booting up and boot SafeMode and then set your vid card to standard VGA.
