Catalyst problem

I'm having a really weird problem with my PC.

I was running the Cat 7.7's, but switched back to 7.6 to do a little comparison. When I tried to reinstall 7.7's, the installation would fail while installing the display driver and say something like, "INF file could not be found". So I tried to go back to 7.6's and now those drivers give me the same error. I'm stuck with the generic Windows driver since nothing else is working.

Any ideas?

Every time I switched drivers, I uninstalled ATI software from the CP, rebooted into safe mode and used driver cleaner.

These are Vista 32-bit, btw.

I don't like 7.7's much except for some added video color settings. yeah the installer ,stalled for me also. You know what else pisses me off is when VPU recovers it starts asking for email shit so ,, to lazy to type BS , why not just send the fukin error back to AMD. I just had to wait 1 min for my video to recover, I'm pissed.

Sorry If I went OT...

As long as CCC installed correctly, you can just manually update the drivers through device manager, which can be found in Vista by right-clicking Computer, selecting Properties, and clicking on Device Manager on the left side of the computer management window. I had to do this once when trying pre-release drivers--no idea why.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I got the 7.6's installed by letting the failed installtion continue and manually updating the display driver after a reboot.

Strange thing is, I still get the same error when trying to manually update to the 7.7's.
