Catalyst Control Center wont start!

Don't know if this should be in software / Mobo / or Video but I thought here was best.

I have an ATI Xpress 200 (or 1600 depending on your preference) mobo, I am playing an old game (2000 era) that doesn't have a brightness or gamma option. My problem is the Catalyst control center wont load EVER. It used to with 5.11 drivers but ever since it wont. I have uninstalled all drivers till I was at 800x600 on generic device then tried all drivers from 5.11 up and CCC still wont start. The game is just too dark and it happens with multiple games, I seem to remember you could set the gamma with CCC then play a game.

Any help would be much appreciated, and my monitor is at full brightness and contrast and its CRT (1280x1024 Max res but the games I play are 640x480 or 800x600) before you ask.

Make sure you have the .net framework installed. I believe it is required for later versions of catalyst control center.

Under Add/remove programs I have

MS .net framework 1.1
MS .net framework 1.1 Hotfix
MS .net framework 2.0

So thats not the problem.... Unless theres a 2.1 I don't know aboot.

Mine won't start either unless I go:

All Programs> ATI Catalyst Control Center> Advanced> Restart Runtime

i have had problem in the past with Zone alarm blocking some port or something and that prevented CCC from starting. try fixing that.

the CCC requires the runtime to be running prior to opening up the actual interface.. before you try and open it, look at the running tasks.. if CLI.exe isn't already running, then you can't access the CCC.. open up the command prompt and type in 'C:\PROGRA~1\ATITEC~1\ATI.ACE\CLI.exe /runtime'.. then start up the control center. if it is already running then your problem lies elsewhere.

I have 2 CLI.exe running at all times.

and as for the Zone Alarm I let CCC access the web no help.

I just reloaded XP and CCC still wont start.

Ati Tool has gamma but it doesn't work for me either.

EDIT: I got aboot $250 coming to me so I think I'll pick up an Nvidia 6150 board and XP home OEM seem to be my best option.

Had the same problem and tried lots of options to fix - ultimately it took a Windows reinstall (needed it for other reasons) to fix though I wouldn't suggest this as a solution for just the CCC.

Try using ATI Tray Tools for the same (and more convenient) functionality - you can get it through Guru3D IIRC.
