Catalyst Control Center won't launch

Hey guys, I just installed my new 4870 and downloaded CCC and the display driver and installed them. But when I try to run CCC to monitor temps and control fan speed, it won't launch. I get this error message:

CCC Command Line Interface has encountered a problem and needs to close.

If anyone knows, what could this be and how can I solve this? Thanks much

Need more info... Did you remove any other display drivers prior to installation? Also check you have the latest windows updates, particularly .Net 2.0/3.0- what OS?

CCC for the 8.7s WHQL wouldn't start for me either (got some MOM Implementation error or w/e). Uninstalled it and installed the one from the 8.6s WHQL, works like a charm now. Perhaps try it?

Seems like the 8.7's have plagued a lot of users with problems, maybe the 8.6's with the hotfix would be better?

If the 8.7s offer better performance but the CCC fails then you could always try ATI Tray Tools over CCC and see whether that works better. I've not really found any performance/memory difference that ATI Tray Tools supposedly offers, but it could work until the 8.8s are out (which should be soon-ish I'd have thought).

Working fine for me, I read sometimes you need to do an extra reboot to get CCC working fine after the first time you install them.

Did you have an Nvidia card before?..Anyway you could try uninstalling your ATI drivers run Driver Cleaner or Driver Sweeper in safe mode,reboot back to desktop install the stand alone driver ,reboot again and install the stand alone CCC software ,reboot twice after to be sure before going into CCC.


Remember you need net framework installed(included in Vista),btw what OS are you using?

I removed all of my drivers and reinstalled the driver, and still nothing. And as far .net framework goes, I believe I have 2.0 installed. But I have no idea whether it's running or not, do I have to have it checked off in msconfig or something. The reason I don't know this is because when I tried to install 3.5, I got an error, and I when I uninstalled 2.0 I got an error. I see to be getting errors all over the place.

I also removed CCC and reinstalled it, but to no avail. The problem with the hotfix is that I can't even use it because it required me having to go into CCC, which isn't running at the moment.

I also tried Tray Tools, but that can't recognize the 4870, due to it not having been updated recently to support newer cards.

And, I also rebooted a couple of times, but it still wouldn't work, and I didn't have an NVIDIA card before. I'll try the drive cleaner route, but I don't know, because I uninstalled everything using add/remove programs, for what its worth, and reinstalled them. And, like I said, it didn't work.

My system is in my sig, and I'm using Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2.

I really need help fixing this CCC issue now, because according to GPU-Z, the 4870 is idling at 78, which I'm guessing isn't a good thing. Can anything other than CCC control the fan of the 4870?

How did you remove your old drivers, just by using add/remove programs? Pick up Driver Sweeper and give it another shot. Alternatively, google around a bit and there's a list of specific files to axe manually out there somewhere. If you have XP, .net 2.0 is fine. Not sure about Vista.

The XP I have is an oem from my old Dell, I just reinstalled it and it worked. Could that have anything to do with the fact that .net 2.0 won't install? I was told that it could by someone on another forum. I'll try the Driver Sweeper thing and get back to you on it. Thanks again
