Well, I went and installed these and noticed that my screen immediately became dimmer. I thought there was some kind of conflict, so I went and formatted (I wanted to anyway) and reinstalled. The screen was fine until, once again, I installed the 7.5 drivers and everything went dim.

Vista 32bit with a Samsung 226BW.

You can't simply adjust the gamma and colors either either with the on screen monitor controls or the driver utilities?

I notice that these drivers stopped me from running 1600x1200 at 100hz on my IBM P275. Right now, the highest hz I can run at 1600x1200 is 85 with this release apparently.

So ATi's initial drivers have DX10 Crossfire support for Vista.

How many months did it take nVidia to achieve this?

Is there really any doubt who has the superior driver support here?

Let's not have this thread turn into yet another typical AT flamefest.

Indeed, you know what they are gonna say "but Ati had 6 months blabla" meanwhile forgetting its all relative

Lets hope some site re-benchs the card now

Does this driver include the recently announced free games from Valve? Supposedly ATI is going to bundle STEAM with the drivers which will allow access to some free games.... another ATI - Valve exclusive deal.

I think so... the driver had the option for free games.. however I didn't install it (as I already own HL2/EP1/CS/DOD etc..)

Just a quick post...

I don't know if anyone else runs Live for Speed.. but I got around 90fps on my slow machine (3500), running at 1600x1200..

This is amazing for me, as I've come from pretty slow cards... the fastest card I had before the 2900XT was a X800GT...

Does anyone have a color depth/quality problem with the 7.5 driver? I have a 19" Viewsonic display and the max res is 1440x900. The catalyst 7.5 drive will only let me select 16bit as the color depth...but when I used the 7.4 and the default Vista driver 32bit was always the default....Am I the only one with this problem?

No such problem here although my 3D settings still keep disappearing.

If you hit the Upgrade button in Catalyst Install Manager, try completely uninstalling and reinstalling the latest Catalysts. It's also possible that the latest drivers have some sort of bug with your card.

I am having the exact same problem. I had reinstalled Vista a few days ago and hadn't installed any video drivers until the 7.5's came out.

Once I installed it, my screen got a dim grey color to it... I thought it was just me at first until I saw your post... I also have a Samsung 226BW.

You mean with a 9800 Pro? I think sometimes the latest drivers don't work well with old cards.
I can't wait to see what will happen with the X1650 XT though. 🙂

Oh, darn, they never said limited time before. I guess I'll have to download that the minute my X1650 XT arrives.

also with this deathmatch is a source engine product so now you can play all the hl2 mods like goldeneye source and the much awaited INSURGENCY MOD that will be out this month.

Ok I went back to the 7.4 driver and I can select 32bit as the color depth again at 1440x900. I also have the dim screen problem like others are saying even with the 7.4 drivers (happened also with 7.5)

Working well for me so far. X850XT and Vista Business.

I had no problems with any of the previous drivers, and performance in 3dmark06 went up mildly.

Not nearly as long as it took ATI to get a DX10 card to market...... LOL! just kidding. Enjoy your new drivers.

Is Steam embedded into Catalyst now?

I installed the 7.5s when I installed my 2900XT. I did notice that EQ2 was a bit darker than it was with the X1900XT and the 7.4s, but it was easily correctable. I haven't noticed other issues in any of the 3DMark benches that I've ran so far. I'll be playing around more with Oblivion and Caesar IV tomorrow.

I'll really looking forward to see how well Caesar IV runs, that game would bring my X1900XT to its knees.
