Catalyst 7.5 display corruption

I recently returned a X1900XTX on RMA due to an unrelated issue. When I installed the replacement card I received, I loaded the Catalyst 7.5 Suite to ensure I was using the latest drivers.
Shortly after, my desktop display suddenly got very bright and washed out looking. It was to the point it was very difficult to read text in menus etc. It also occurred in any other programs I tried to run. Card temps were normal <47c.
I thought it was my display so I attempted to adjust it which did not work. Finally, I did an uninstall of the drivers and Catalyst suite. The stock Windows drivers seem to work fine but do not allow the range of video adjustment I bought the X1900XTX for.
To ensure my download had not gotten corrupted somehow, I've gone through the download/install process two more times. Each time, the display degradation occurs shortly after the installation.

My configuration is:
Vista Home Premium
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Intel BOXD975XBXLKR MOBO
Corsair TWIN2X2048 DDR2-800 XMS2-6400 2GB Mem
ATI Radeon X1900 XTX 512MB PCI-E
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum
Wd 200 GB SATA II HD
ASUS DVD RW
Sony DVD

Anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening?? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

I have tried the 7.4 drivers...Same problem.
I have now loaded the 7.4 Drivers, and removed the Catalyst Control Center. My display seems OK for now...
But if I can't use the CCC software advanced features, Why did I spend so much on this card!!!

I'm going to try to RMA THIS card as well and see if maybe they set me a refurb''d card instead of a new one when I RMA'd my original card.

What a pain..................

you try not using CCC and use ati tools or ati tray tools instead? unsure if they work with vista

I'm running with a Thermaltake 550W ATI Crossfire certified PSU and a Princeton 19 in LCD monitor. I have not tried the ATI tools or tray tools. In fact I don't know where to get them... I have not seen them offered on the ATI site nor did I see them included in the suite package. I was able to uninstall the CCC software but did not see any other options to run the tools or tray tools. If I remember right....(OK I'm getting old...) the ATI tools were the precursor to the CCC software.... right?

I can't find any mention of them on the download sections of the ATI site.

ATI Tray tools has no affiliation with ATI...It's a 3rd party tool.

Google>ATI Tray tools>Download.

I have the same problems with 7.5 Cats on my XT...Waiting a month for 7.6.

But CCC is crap anyway...Tray tools and ATI Tool are the way to go.

Got the ATI Tray tools (excuse my ignorance....) And they seem to work well. Thanks for the info!

However I am still concerned about the card. It should work (well!!!) with ATI software wouldn't you think???

I would chalk this up to another lovely Windows Vista experience....I haven't tried updating my drivers yet as I've only been gaming on XP. I might now just to see if I can replicate the problem myself...

It should work well but it doesnt. I use ATI Tray Tools on my XP system with my X1950XTX card because the fan never kicks in high when I am gaming heavily. I have ATT load a profile that kicks the fan up higher so my games dont crap out from overheated card.

I guess my question about that thought is; 7.5 and 7.4 are both Vista specific drivers. Shouldn't they work?????!!

Yes...in a perfect world. :brokenheart:

I think that CCC is simply "losing" the desktop color settings for your card. Try opening CCC if you still have it installed and look for the Color tab. Reset the gamma to 1.00, brightness to 0, and contrast to 100 since these are the default values (at least on my computer).

Does this fix the problem?

Just out of curiosity, are you running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Vista? You can check this by right-clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties, and then scrolling down a little in the window that has opened.

Mine does it with Windows XP. I just went into ccc and adjusted the colors from there. I think I will unitall and just install the display drivers as I don't use the avivo anyway.

I'm running the 32 bit version. I do not have CCC on board any longer. Nor did I try to adjust any of the values you suggested. It is almost impossible to see the menu screens/buttons/etc when the display washes out!!

However, after AT LEAST 10 install/uninstall attempts, each with the same resulting display degradation, it doesn't seem to me this is an intermittent problem. I'm waiting on ATI to see what they have to say about this. I'll let you know!

Thanks to all for the help!!

Similar situation with my x1900xtx and 7.5's . Open CCC click the color tab then choose microsoft MCE black and white levels, then apply. This corrected the faded color problem I had.
