The following section provides a summary of the issues that have been resolved in the latest version of CATALYST?. These include:

* 4x4 Evolution2: Attempting to play the game under Windows XP with an ATI RADEON? X300/X600 series installed no longer results in the operating system failing to respond when the screen is set to 1600x1200 32bpp and OpenGL Renderer is enabled
* 4x4 Evolution 2: Display corruption is no longer noticed when having the display set to 1600x1200 32bpp along with the texture detail set to high and split screen rendering enabled
* Serious Sam: Playing the game under Windows XP results in the display flashing when TRUFORM is enabled
* Sims 2: Playing the game Veronaville under Windows XP while having the desktop set to 1024x768 32bpp along with AA set to 6X no longer results in corruption being noticed in the fields
* Selecting the option; Enable Video Mode, results in the CATALYST? CONTROL CENTER not being able to return to the default setting for the Enable Video Mode option
* Switching language support for the CATALYST? CONTROL CENTER no longer results in the slider bar for the engine clock being enabled when the option found in OVERDRIVE? is locked
* Navigating to View->Define a Custom View and deselecting all options found in the 3D option of the Edit Custom View tab, no longer results in the Standard Settings option remaining selected
* Intermittent failure of the VPU Recover report not being sent is now resolved
* Double-clicking the slider bar found in CATALYST? A.I. no longer results in the Disable CATALYST? A.I. option becoming de-selected
* Disabling 3D preview no longer results in the preview continuing to run on a secondary display device
* Having the 3D preview running on the secondary display adapter and attempting change display modes, no longer results in the primary display device displaying a black screen and error messages appearing
* English is no longer the default language when installing the CATALYST? CONTROL CENTER under Windows XP Japanese version
* The CATALYST? CONTROL CENTER Version number is now displayed correctly in all localized languages
* The Display Manager Notification dialog box is now displayed in the correct localized language

I`m going with the old control panel and driver cleaner method .

I've been using CCC for awhile now, some users might like this new feature though.

The CATALYST? Software Suite 5.2 introduces 3D setting options to the CATALYST? CONTROL CENTER system tray. The shortcut allows the user to easily adjust their 3D settings without having to load the CATALYST? CONTROL CENTER

So far I'm just going through some testing. WDM drivers did not install, I got an error message about the operating system not supporting the installer (I'm running MCE 2005, so its not a supported configuration for AIW) 6246 WDM drivers installed on reboot automatically (8/3/2004) I'll see if a manuall update works.

So far, I like access to the 3D settings via the system tray...nice suprise.

I use same settings all the time that`s 16x AF performance and AA set to "application preference".

Btw I had a problem with the CCC awhile back, refresh rate was stuck at 60Hz in BNC mode regardless of what settings I tried,I had to uninstall the CCC and stick with old control panel to get it to work above 60Hz in BNC mode.

Anyway I`ll stick with old control panel until CCC has replaced it completely,by then any bugs in CCC should all be fixed.

Btw 5.2s working great so far and I have tried some gaming, real test will be KOTOR2 this weekend :) .

The 5.1 Omegas just came out too. Just means I'll hold off on upgrading the laptop's video drivers.

Thats right, I remember that now. I'll look for my BNC cables and see if its still an issue, I haven't used them in a while now (one of my connectors is bad, it works but I haven't bought a new cable yet)

First I'm going to use DC and see if I can clean and then install the WDM's, the ones that auto installed aren't working with this driver.

UPDATE: Those are just the same WDM release drivers from last fall, so they're just not going to work in MCE yet.

I think I'm running 4.12s on my XP SP1 install with a R9200 AGP. How do these compare with the 4.12s (sans CCC), and will 5.2s install on W2K? (4.12 would not, for some reason they appeared to be XP-only.)

Btw, any fix for the tearing issue playing back DVDs using VMR9 mode using MPC? That's the only thing slightly annoying with the 4.12s.

Good call, that was my method, too. Install went well but I haven't tested them out yet.

These drivers worked very well in KOTOR and UT2K4 last night. Tonight I'll pit them against KOTOR2 and let you all know how it goes.

What exactly do you have access to?

All the 3D settings from CCC
*Performace>Quality Standard Settings
*AA AF Settings
*AI, Mipmap detail, Truform, Smartshader, Vsync Settings
*API specific Settings

looks pretty good. I installed th CCC version of the driver previous to 5.1 and I had all sorts of problems with it. Maybe when I re-install XP this weekend I'll give 5.2 a shot.

Has anyone ever experienced a weird screen flicker, or jump, or shudder (dunno how best to describe it) with their ATI X800 series card? It's like one frame doesn't get drawn correctly. It happens usually while dragging a window around or oepning a program. Sometimes ATI Tool will do it while testing, even though it reports no errors.

It depends on the driver, however. There was an old whql driver I found that didn't do it at all. another more recent one made the screen move down, the current one just jerks the bottom half.

Anyone ever seen this? And before you say it's because I modded my card, it did this before I modded it.

funny, I think I just solved it!

I'm running a big panel at 1920x1200, and I just UNchecked the setting "reduce DVI frequency on high resolution displays" and I can't make it flicker anymore!

YEE HAW!
