Catalyst 4.6.....Here

Improvements in our surface allocation and texture management code have increased performance for resource-challenged cases. Re-Volt scores improve 25% at 1600x1200 across several RADEON configurations.
Yay, I love Re-Volt, great game, even though it's really old.

I really like the improved information Ati is providing within the release notes, lots of info there.

Does'nt look like any real performance gains though, but we shall see as soon as people report back on these.

Have a look at this:

Pixel Shader compiler improvements bring significant performance gains to PS 2.0 applications such as Halo (2-3%), Tomb Raider (4-5%) and Mother Nature (4-5%). ShaderMark 2 shows numerous gains in the 3-6% range. The High Dynamic Range scenes in ShaderMark (Tests 20 & 21) gain 10-15%.

RADEON X800 driver tuning improves performance for several Vertex-Shader-heavy tests. For example, Battle of Proxycon, Troll's Lair and Mother Nature gain 9-15% on the RADEON X800 PRO.

Improvements in our surface allocation and texture management code have increased performance for resource-challenged cases. Re-Volt scores improve 25% at 1600x1200 across several RADEON configurations. ShaderMark Test 14 (Veined Marble) improves dramatically (up 380% at 1600x1200) on some 256MB products.

Improvements in OpenGL driver efficiency bring numerous small gains (1-3%) in Call of Duty, Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory, Star Trek - Elite Force II, Serious Sam, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Quake III Arena.

X800 memory tuning improves Anti-Aliasing performance in a number of games and benchmarks. For example, at 4xAA, 3DMark2001 gains 4-7%, UT2003 Antalus and Asbestos Flybys improve 2-7%, and the CodeCreatures score rises 15%.

Not bad I believe...

OpenGL feels smoother. Thief3 runs smoother and the image quality *APPEARS* to me to have increased in FarCry and Painkiller.

Is Temporal AA just for the new x800 cards or will it be for the 9800's as well?

Its definately supported on R3xx cards, and IIRC, RV3xx as well.

This isn't the place to ask, but, what does IIRC mean?

IIRC= If I Recall Correctly.

Also, I just got word from ATI that Temporal AA in OpenGL is coming Cat 4.7!

Are you serious?! Darn it. I've been waiting ever since I heard abouit TAA for it to come out. Oh well, Ive waited this long, whats a few more weeks?

TOO LONG!!! lol

oh, and thanks 4 the info.

Oh, and SickBeast, thanks for the acronym explanations :beer:😀

AFAIK=as far as i know
Finally I know what it means!!!🙂

I like the idea that people said ATI can't gain anymore performance out of their super old architecture.

Up to 25% improvement is definitely a kick in the face for them.

I don't care about performance improvements when half my games keep fvcking crashing@!@@@!!!!!!1111
My computer just went through a random reboot while playing theif 3
painkiller crashed after 15 minutes of play...
UT2004 crashes in 15 minutes of play
call of duty crashes in 15 minutes of play
gtr crashes if i change view modes
farcry crashes randomly...
only game that runs stable for me is quake3, rallisport challenge(which it stutters with AF on), original unreal tournament.
The whole driver fails on and off, sometimes games will report, no d3d9 renderer found, or cannot load opengl subsystem and I have to reboot.
ATI DRIVERS ARE A FVCKING HEADACHE!! ARRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHhh!!!
Yes I know for a fact it's ATI drivers, because I used to use an FX5900 on the same system with no such problems, and yes I have reformatted since I changed.

4.6 catalysts are majorly bugged and cause game crashing and do not even run V-sync correctly.
I recommend you do not use these drivers for any reason.
If you have any games stuttering etc in any of the cat 4.x just go back to the original 3.9 since these drivers are still ATIs fastest and most glitch free.
